yay! I finally remembered my [warning nerdy] question for AskMeCha! [More:]

Hello, good morning, happy Monday!

I finally remembered what I was going to ask you lot, and it is thusly:

Adobe colourspace issues. I feel this should be easy, but I can't figure it out and searching hasn't provided any easy answers.

When I process my photos prior to uploading them to Flickr, they are brilliant, colour-saturated and loaded with life. Once I upload them to Flickr, they seem drab, pale and washed-out by comparison, even just thirty seconds later using the same hardware (my MBP).

Does anybunny have a brainstorm as to which colourspace I should be using? Software: Adobe Photoshop CS for Mac. Hardware: 15" 2ghz Macbook Pro (still using OSX 10.4/Tiger).

I'm still shooting with my Nikon D70. I believe I'm using Adobe sRGB, but I can't be positive. I don't know if this is an issue with in-camera settings, flickr, my software settings in PS or a combo.

Any help / insight shall be rewarded by whuffles, my undying gratitude, and the solemn promise to buy the first round, should we ever y'know, meet in r/l.
Could be your browser is desaturating them. Does Safari look OK and Firefox look wrong? Save the Flickr image onto your hard drive & load it up in your image editor. Are the images still desaturated?

If you're using firefox, then there's a flag you can set to improve the saturation:
Type about:config in the address bar.
Change setting "gfx.color_management.enabled" to true

Also, looking around, there's this:

Seems like it's a known issue.

hm. I'm using FF3 on the mac, which that comment indicates has fixed the prior colourspace issues. Safari doesn't look any different I'm afraid.

IE6 (work) looks universally terrible but then I pretty much figured that was owing to the craptastic monitor.

blah. looks like sRGB is the right way to go, anyhoo. I'll make sure I'm consistent and leave it at that.

thanks seanyboy! and *whuffles*

I would never have thought to go snooping in an Aperture discussion. Your google-fu appears far greater than mine.

Try this:
1) Edit/Convert to Profile/sRGB (to make sure you're in sRGB)
2) Edit/Assign Profile/Don't Color Manage

Save as JPEG and don't check the Embed sRGB check box.

View in FF and compare to the same file in Photoshop, should be close to identical.

I notice differences in color depending on which software program opens it. It sux. In the end, I decided that it doesn't really matter. The color difference isn't going to make a difference whether anyone likes my photos or not. I got it where I want it, and too bad for everyone else I guess.
