Burqa Band (Music starts around 0:40)[More:]YT comments are enlightening as usual.
Is this a joke?
I heard this when it came out, and found it strangely unsettling even then, from the disjointed rhythms to the dispassionate, echoing background singers.

It's been linked to some pretty idiosyncratic, if high-profile, underground dance music types (Barbara Morgenstern and the Ata Tak record label), but there's no concrete evidence that it's a sham.

In short, if it's a hoax, people ain't sayin'.

Not a hoax, Real.

Got to be hard to play guitar with fabric covering one's fingers. Weird.

Having traveled extensively through countries where women wore the burqa in the 1970's (Morocco, Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan)I just felt so badly for the women, for them having to live like that. The heat, not being able to see well. All fear based around male lust. So strange, sad and disturbing.

I remember my younger brother in Morocco saying he felt more attracted to the mystery of a woman covered up, hidden, than seeing girls in halter tops. And that seemed strange, that the mystery might even fan the lust flames.

And then women in burqa are jailed if they are raped?! It's staggering.

The lead singer's distinct accent is interesting, and authentic. It belongs to a 25-year old interpreter who again, remains anonymous for her own safety. Singing with the other two girls who comprise the group, their sound is like some remote cousin to an 80's Bananarama song.

That seemed odd to me because the voice in the song sounded German. Maybe it's been overdubbed?

All that remains of the ephemeral alliance of the Burqa and rock is an amateur video clip and a song remixed by Berlin DJ Barbara Morgenstern which has become a modest summer-time favourite.
