My grandfather once ran over a squirrel while mowing his lawn (tractor) - broke both of the squirrel's back legs + back. He ended up keeping the squirrel as an inside pet for a couple of years because he felt bad. The squirrel then got sick and died.

It's really freaking weird to walk into your grandparents house and see a squirrel snoozing on the back of the recliner behind your grandpa.
