Lime like the chalky substance or the fruit? Seriously, I heard someone talking about "lime lights" and how you could get lime to emit light and I was all "you're full of shit, dude!" until he explained that he meant the other kind of lime.
Lime is the reason for the Pueblos Blancos of the Meditterranean, the beautiful white villages;- nowadays probably more due to Sandex than Kalkwasser though!
Yeah, but slow dripping water on it would generate heat. I have no idea what mechanism would be used though???
I have painted with Kalkwasser and it is quite hot when you mix the dry powder with water, you have to keep well back and avoid spalshes. And you must be outdoors as you can burn your nasal passages and bronchial lining if you inhale it while it is mixing.
Cal (Lime) is a very cheap powder and one widely availible in Southern Europe.
I'm guessing that the Professor's boyhood friend devised a mechanism to keep himself warm but, as the article said, too much water got in causing an explosive reaction of lime into his eyes.
I'm also guessing that his friend was (vaguely ?) Aspie, but that's just a personal feeling as this is exactly the kind of thing my husband or son would try to invent.
