What's your preferred libation?
Mimosa! Or Koolosa!
posted by ThePinkSuperhero 28 February | 16:13
Porters and imperial stouts, these days, though as it gets a little warmer I'll probably gradually switch to IPAs. Wait, does a libation have to be alcoholic?

Margaritas with lots of salt.

Sparkling water. Room temp. No ice. Or strong, hot, black coffee.
posted by essexjan 28 February | 16:23
Guinness, though possibly a Hoegaarden, a Hummer, or some other Belgian white ale, esp. in warm weather.

Beer - most India Pale Ales, or anything from Portsmouth Brewery.
Ice-cold Coca-Cola (diet, actually).
Real brewed iced tea, unsweetened, or maybe a hint of sugar and lemon.

Depending on mood:

water
mineral water
iced tea
hot tea (black, no sugar)
juice (orange, tomato)
lager/pilsner (Bitberger, Pilsner Urquell, Chekvar)
IPA (any one of a number, but Diamond Knot and Elysian are two faves)
stout (Guinness. Duh.)
whiskey (Bulliet, neat)
martini (very dry, up, with a twist, and if you shake it I'm not paying for it)
bloody mary
wine (only with food)
cognac (after dinner)
port (after dinner)
posted by bmarkey 28 February | 16:48
Oh yeah, I almost forgot: mojitos in summer.
posted by bmarkey 28 February | 16:52
* Tanqueray Ten martini, up, with olives (or, even better, tomolives)
* Manhattan made by ikkyu2. That man makes a mean Manhattan.
posted by occhiblu 28 February | 16:58
Bubbly water, with a little flavoring.

At a bar: Beer on tap or vodka-tonic.
At home: Bourbon whiskey and diet coke, with a twist of lime and a mint leaf.

In the summer, preferably while manning a grill: margerita, on the rocks.

Trivia: Bourbon and cola was the favorite drink of both President Lyndon B. Johnson and his good friend, US Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall.

mmm. when I drink alcohol it's usually Scotch or Manhattans. I like them best with rye, but I'll take them anyway.

Also, Cesar's makes something called a Cuban Manhattan with a rum that's surprisingly yummy.

patxaran

or ice-cold milk

Oregon Pinot Noir
Sauvingon Blanc
Any kind of good Pilsneresque beer.
Herradura
For mixed drinks (very infrequent) always a Bloody Mary

Water
Calistoga, plain
Pomegranite Juice
posted by danf 28 February | 17:08
Oh yeah... I never really do mixed drinks, either, but I love a Bloody Mary with Sunday brunch.
posted by BoringPostcards 28 February | 17:13
I could go on all day, but here are the basics:

Hendricks up with a slice of cucumber
Lagavulin with a few drops of water (and I do mean drops)
good beer, and lots of it
red wine (chewy and oaky, please)
posted by Specklet 28 February | 17:27
Long Island Iced Tea. Oh yeahhhhhhh.

Non-alcoholic: Most varieties of dark soda (Coke, Pepsi, Dr. Pepper, etc etc.)
posted by sperose 28 February | 17:39
Lately, Newton's Folly Granny Smith cider from Trader Joes. It's so good.

Also Bailey's and milk. But we're all out of Bailey's.

Non-alcoholic: fresh whole milk, water, cranberry juice.

I recently kicked diet soda after 20 years of intermittently severe dependency. Now it's either H2O or TJ's pomegranate white tea with a tap of arsenic (i.e., Splenda) I also use diluted raspberry Crystal Light as the base in my protein shakes.

(So I have a little ways to go on the artificial sweeteners. But I'm tackling this one chemical at a time.)

Beer and wine. I prefer reds.
posted by LoriFLA 28 February | 18:32
I like water, and ginger ale if I am to drink pop. Cranberry juice is my favourite juice.

For booze, I really prefer a rye and ginger to anything else. I've also been known to partake in a whiskey sour, and I once knocked of a decent sized bottle of cheap Cuban rum with my kid brother, in Mojito form.

Oh yeah, and cider. Real, English cider, not to lousy apple juice with booze that I see in 2 liter bottles sometimes. Perry is quite tasty too.

Crystal Light lemonade
Tropicana Pure Premium OJ
To both, I am very brand loyal, and I drink liters of both every day.
On special occasions, South American red wine

The regulars: Black coffee in the morning, plain water all day, PBR or Yuengling at night, or, if I'm out, local drafts: Highland Gaelic or Asheville Brewing Co.'s Scottish Ale.
The occasionals: vodka tonic, one a week with my mom. Rum and whatever. Plain seltzer/club soda, occasionally with a little juice in it. Green tea. Classic coke for medicinal purposes only. And lately I've gotten addicted to Smartwater - my GOD that's an irritating website but I do love the stuff.

Coffee, tea (Earl or Lady Grey, or whatever herbal/flavoured kind strikes my fancy when shopping), diet pepsi or spicy ginger beer.

Guilty pleasure: Spruce beer. The soda. Mmmm sweet, bubbly pinesol-y goodness.

Mint juleps in summer. Hot Toddies or just plain ol' bourbon in winter.

IPA, Porter, Stout my top three beers, in no particular order.

You get some pretty serious bang for your buck out of merlots since everyone went and saw "Sideways" and then suddenly decided that they always detested merlot (the exact opposite has happened to lower-priced pinot noir, thanks, guys).

I had my first Islay scotch not to long ago and had to change my socks.

Mojito? Fuck yes.
posted by middleclasstool 28 February | 21:27
Non-alcoholic, regular: tea, especially gunpowder, jasmine and mint; unsweet iced tea; tap water.

Occasional: espresso drinks, mainly iced mochas; Thai iced tea; juice, especially from berries and citrus fruits; spring water (I'm about an hour's drive from the Mountain Valley Spring springs, which helps to mitigate the guilt); water with a couple drops of peppermint oil in it.
posted by box 28 February | 21:40
Just about all fruit juices (and smoothies).
Tea: Assam Tippy Golden, from Murchie's, Russian tea, peppermint, some of those odd herbal mixes from Germany. Chai, but only when I make it myself - the cinnamon in the store-bought stuff doesn't do it for me, and I like varying the spices depending on mood.
Coffee: the dark, strong, bitter Italian stuff, as I get it so cheap around this neighbourhood.
Whisky: MacAllan 12yr, and Glen Garioch, and others. Those two are my faves right now.
Beer: usually microbrewery or interesting imported ones. Never Canadian/Labatt's/Budweiser stuff.
Vodka (Moskovskaya or Luksusowa), sake, wine - usually red. I'm liking Chat-en-Oeuf and Fat Bastard these days.
Summer = sangria.

- orange juice
- strong iced tea (orange pekoe) with lemon, no sweetener

single malt scotches (peaty!)
rye whiskey with soda and bitters!

Oak Creek or Maker's Mark or other bourbon
Medium sherry
red wine
Sam Adams Boston Lager
Geary's London Porter

okay, now I want a libation. But it's still working time, so coffee, it is. Beer later with the Friday Evening Chicks.

Eponysterical.

I'm drinking a lot of cranberry juice mixes. Cran-raspberry or cran-grape are the easiest to get in 100% juice, no added sugar form. But water still gets me through my day.
