24 February 2008

i wanted to make Oscar related commentary here with jrossi, iconomy, box and other possible telly watching peoples. So if you wanna, go right ahead. Link away, dish and rip. Me, i need some water.[More:] i haven't seen nothing yet. i bet i'm missing strike related attempts at funny and some mildly interesting formal attire.
We are here, with champagne and spaghetti and meatballs.

Hay, Stewart is doing okay.
posted by MonkeyButter 24 February | 20:41
Here I am, watching the Oscars. Ooh, Alexandra Byrne, I love your glasses. I bet people say that a lot when you're a costume designer.
posted by box 24 February | 20:44
I'm watching until Masterpiece Theater at 9 - Mr. Darcy has my heart!

Yeah, Stewart is doing just fine so far.
posted by iconomy 24 February | 20:44
Good, i love that little man.
Now where's my goddamn remote.

i wish i had some ice cream and a soy bomb. i always want a good soy bomb during the Oscars. It's part of why i occasionally bother.

Box, show me the glasses. Someone pick stuff out for me.
i find Steve Carell animal magnetism shocking every time.

Wow, Anne Hathaway has a really really big mouth.

i haven't seen it yet but i want to. i hoped it'd win but you know the allure of rats and food. And pixar.

(I'm trying to find pics of Byrne w/the glasses, but haven't seen any. Maybe they'll show her again.)
posted by box 24 February | 20:59
I want spaghetti & meatballs now. Dammit.

What's a soy bomb?
posted by BitterOldPunk 24 February | 21:00
I just ate like, a pound of grapes in lieu of sweet snacks. I'm thinking that I kind of defeated the purpose of the grapes.

Also, I'm not interested in songs from Enchanted.
posted by gaspode 24 February | 21:01
Man, this number could use a soy bomb, that's for sure.

Oh, he's a soy bomb. Thanks, box. I thought it was some sort of tasty chilled beverage, like a frappe.

Why am I even watching the Oscars? I haven't seen any of these movies....

Oh, yeah, cuz I like Jon Stewart.

Based on what I've seen of the fashion in the audience, I am increasingly happy I saved all my skinny ties from the 80s. They'll be back. Any day now. You just wait.

i haven't seen barely anything either, but i did get to see Javier Bardem say "Julin Snobble" yesterday and i love that for some reason. i want to find a good positive definition for a snobble.

Oh, and Anne Hathaway's mouth is always seems to have that boa constrictor unhinging thing surprise going on. It's a skill, to be sure.

You didn't see No Country For Old Men, BOP? I think it'd be up your alley.

Heehee, this salute to binoculars and periscopes is awesome.
posted by box 24 February | 21:23
It's kind of interesting to watch this show and be so out of touch with the people and movies being presented. It's like listening to the adults in a Charlie Brown movie.
posted by MonkeyButter 24 February | 21:26
I've never even heard of this movie, but this is a great musical number.
posted by box 24 February | 21:27
Yeah, box, I meant to see it and meant to see it and then never got around to it. That my typical MO for checking out films...

Maybe Owen Wilson will make history and off himself onstage! DO IT OWEN, DO IT!!!

posted by ThePinkSuperhero 24 February | 21:49
It's the voice, I think. Based on my dozens of viewings of Don't Look Back, and my single viewing of I'm Not There, I'd say that Blanchett put in a little bit too much Greenwich Village, and not quite enough Hibbing, Minnesota.

Mr. rossi keeps screwing up our two-person, last-minute Oscar pool by calling "There Will Be No Blood For Old Men" as the winner in every category.

Is this Enchanted movie aimed at children?

La Vie en Rose really struck a nerve with the Academy voters, didn't it? What's their average age again?

I'd have been happy to see Ellen Page win, but Marion C. does look so happy.

I'm watching this with an american 16 year old philistine. She's my daughter and I love her but she assumes that since the yahoos that she spends her time with in a rural USian high school haven't seen a film it must not deserve an Oscar.

I do wish she'd shush.
posted by mmahaffie 24 February | 22:21
La Vie en Rose was exceptional. The performance definitely deserved an Oscar - it wasn't just entertaining, it was something near to channeling. And just a cool, moving film.

Reeeally late to this thread.

I hate the strapless dress fashion. They only suit buxom women and they are few and far between in Hollywood.

Bitchfest follows, for which I do not apologise. People put themselves on the red carpet for comment. And I'll only comment on actors/actresses and not people's partners who aren't in showbiz.

I thought Cameron Diaz looked scrawny in her strapless gown and the colour washed her out. She should wear blue, a lovely cornflower blue or darker.

George Clooney's girlfriend looked like she was wearing the curtains from her hotel suite.

Nicole Kidman looked creepy. She's had too much Botox.

Renee Zellwegger wore a fabulous dress but her face is so fucking weird.

Daniel Day-Lewis. I hope that hair was for a film role. And brown suede shoes with a tux?

Julie Christie would have been on my Best Dressed List were it not for those gloves. What was she thinking?

Looking good were: Calista Flockhart, Hilary Swank, Jennifer Hudson, Helen Mirren, Adrienne Frantz (very old-style glamour) and Wesley Gorgeous Snipes.
