I need confirmation on/solace about how much this sucks. →[More:]
Basically, I find myself suddenly unemployed. The woman I've been working for (a contractor) and her boss had a falling out, and they are no longer working with (or speaking to) each other.
So, my job? It's done. And I had no notice. Just a phone call saying "Hey, you need to finish up this project so I can turn it in. And by the way, I'm not going to be doing this work anymore. Thanks!"
This happened about a week ago and I've since finished the unfinished work. The utter unfairness has finally started sinking in, and it goes like this:
When you get laid off, you usually have some warning. When you get fired, you usually have a pretty good idea that you've done something wrong. When you quit, you usually have an inkling that you're miserable (and you hopefully have a backup plan).
I didn't have any of those luxuries. I had no warning, had done no advance job searching, hadn't really been on/in the market. And now I have to hurry up and get a fucking income.
I'm really, really pissed off. It just feels very unfair. It's frustrating and there's nothing I can do about it.
And there's probably a lesson in here about working a 'contract' job without a contract.
*grumble*
Thanks for listening.
