Can we please talk about The Wire?--SPOILERS! [More:]I haven't watched the advance episode (the one that will air this coming sunday) on OnDemand yet, so if you want to discuss something about that technically upcoming episode, I'd appreciate some warning.

So we know that all the characters we love can't possibly ride off into the sunset. Who do you think is going to bite it before the end of the series? They'd better not hurt Dookie, Bug or Bubbles. I'll be crushed. (Omar, too, but he's not exactly an innocent, so it's different.)

Also, I hate McNulty. I've always hated McNulty (which may be why season 4 was my favorite, he was barely in it), but I really hate him this season.
Aw, I like McNutty. He's back to his demons this time around, but that makes him more interesting than the domestic McNutty of last season. And I'm really curious to see how his fake serial killer ends up. I think he'll go down in flames for it.

I think Carver's in for some shit. And Omar -- seems he can't survive. (Although the actor who plays him was on Fresh Air a week or so ago. He said that Omar was supposed to be dead by the end of the first season, but that they decided he was too compelling to kill off. So who knows. He could stay or he could go.)

Looking forward to seeing what happens to Clay Davis. Sheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeit.

I hope Bubbles makes it, but I bet he relapses. God, anything to get rid of the horrendous sponsor played by Steve Earle. (I love his music, but he can't act for shit. And his version of the theme song is the worst yet.)

Marlo getting messed up with the Greek should provide some interesting plot lines, although I haven't figured out what all that's about yet. How'd they get in touch with each other? Is it the Greek who's supplying all the drugs? That part confuses me.

Is it the Greek who's supplying all the drugs?

It's always been the Greek. And he's not even Greek.

I've never really liked McNulty either. And the whole Baltimore Sun plot line, upon which this last season is supposed to hinge, is really boring me to tears. Freamon and Bunk and Omar are my favorite characters. Freamon's phone call to Marlo laid me out, though not nearly as much as Prop Joe's series of phone calls a couple of seasons back.

Awww, now you made me all sad, thinking about what happened to Joe.

Also how freaking creepy is Lance Reddick on Lost??? I don't know what it is ... his body language and intonations all seem to be the same as Cedric Daniels, but he's somehow managing to radiate menace that really really really creeps me out.

The newspaper plot is super axegrindy and the Jayson Blair/Stephen Glass-esque character is probably my least favorite in the whole damn series.

But the rest is great so far.

Yeah, that reporter guy's arc seems really predictable. But I'm hoping they pull off something creative with him.

And, I'm sure everyone knows that the original writers worked for Baltimore papers and Baltmorehomicide. Here's hoping there's a great story involved, and not just a great vanity.

I love The Wire and it takes all of my willpower to not watch the upcoming show on demand so I can have my Sunday night ritual.

I'm still holding out that the worm on the Sun gets what's coming to him. McNulty's meeting at the paper was great since both McNulty and swarmy reporter guy are making shit up and the others in the room thought they were sitting on the story of the decade. Maybe Alma will get a Pulitzer looking into the bullshitting cops and reporters a faux serial killer.

It would be really nice if Omar could go back to his island after taking care of Marlo, but I have a feeling he's going to go out in a blaze of glory. And his Batman-esque exit from Marlo's condo was awesome.

The Wire is what clinched it for me for Obama. Not only is it his favourite tv show, his favourite character is Omar! That is a pretty awesome thing to hear from a politician.

I'm actually kind of enjoying the paper plot, but I think that's because my degree is in journalism and it reinforces my decision not to write for a daily. Plus, we get some Clark Johnson, who's awesome, and Bill Zorzi was an actual reporter for the Sun who has written for the show (and now plays reporter Bill Zorzi). But that actress who plays Alma is awful. She just seems wildly out of her league.

Also how freaking creepy is Lance Reddick on Lost???
Awesomely creepy! Another Oz alumnus bringing the creepy. It seems like everyone who appeared on that show has gone on to do more great work. (With the possible exception of Evan Seinfeld, who seems to be devoting his time now to pimping his porn star wife.)

On preview: I did not know that, Grace! That may give Obama a little advantage as I make my decision.

I think Carver's in for some shit.

Probably, but I love how this show really lets the characters mature. If you had told me in the first season that I would be rooting for Carver or Prez or even Herc, I wouldn't have believed you. (And I really miss Prez this season! I came to love him so much last year.)

I think McNulty has gone far too far this season. There have been points where it looks like they're losing their way, but I'm willing to wait to the end to see how they pull it together.

If it's true that Bubbles is kind of supposed to represent Baltimore, I think he'll make it, but I don't know if that's as a junkie or not.

The real life Omar lived, so hopefully this one does the same.

To the best of my recollection, anyway, it hasn't always been the Greeks supplying the drugs. Avon was getting a New York package for a while, and I think there was a period when the Barksdales, at least, were going through some dude in Atlanta with a rim shop.

Also, I, too, have pretty much always hated McNulty. I hated when it seemed like somebody, probably an HBO exec, was trying to make him the star of what seems to me to be one of the more ensemble-cast television shows ever made. I hate his rampant and pretty much undeserved egotism. And I hate that he's such a crappy father.

Like Carve said, it all matters.

box, the Barksdale crew having problems with supply due to Avon's arrest in the first season was the impetus for Stringer to form the co-op with Prop Joe, since Joe was always getting his shit from the Greek.

But really I said "It's always been the Greek" to imply that the 2nd season of the show is my favorite. The scope of it was just staggering. I mean, the Greek's got a plant in the FBI! 4th season's my second favorite, because it was just heartbreaking, though Prez made an awesome teacher under the most difficult of circumstances.

Where is Prez??? He's the only member of the original detail that hasn't shown up this season.
