Fancy pasta. We were given some designer tri-color pasta made with olive, arugula, and red pepper and I wanted to make a salmon and asparagus dish with it, but when I went to the nearby grocery, there was no asparagus, and the salmon they had was selling for 12 Euros. Too rich for my pocket! So... [More:]

I cooked it up with baby snow peas, mushrooms, and smoked trout (only 4 Euros. heh.) and it turned out pretty darn good.

I fried and crumbled a couple of strips of bacon, then sauteed the mushrooms in that pan, with a splash of white wine, tossed in the trout bits, briefly stir-fried the snow peas and added them to the mushroom/trout mix along with some cream and let it simmer a bit.

Finally I tossed this sauce with the pasta and served with some fresh parmesan. Nice! But I think I'll skip the cream next time... The pasta itself was rich tasting, plus there was the bacon, and it didn't really need the extra cream-oomph.

Also, we were out of peppercorns, so I used a little cayenne in it, so it was very nicely hottish.

I'm just making lunch and this looks yummy! Except for the asparagus (my fav veg of all time) your adaptation sounds better than the original.

Hey, lady, save it for Photo Friday! ;P

Geez, look at the garnish. I feel so inadequate over here. That is gorgeous.

I lurve your flatware. It looks so substantial and beefy and like it would be pleasant to hold. Less than 5 minutes ago I was bookmarking flatware and plates that I must have. I'm really sick of looking at my dishes.

That's what I thought when I got it, ico ... but it turns out to be too end-heavy, and so a little unbalanced, and doesn't feel quite right. And if you are using a fork or spoon with a smallish plate or bowl, they have a tendency to fall off. ugh.

I think the best way to buy flatware would be to just buy a single place setting, fork/knife/spoon and try it out for a week before purchasing a whole set. Unfortunately, I haven't seen that option.

You had a lucky escape: salmon is the work of satan and all his tiny elves. Smoked trout belongs on a slightly lesser ring of hell.

WMF offers that Taz, you buy a full place setting (called the service programme, what a bit of translationese!)
Ein Service is a place setting, I'm sure other manufacturers offer this too?
