21 January 2008

so i'm going to los angeles next month and i'm bringing one of these with me with the intent of filling it up. can any l.a. area bunnies recommend some good places for crate digging?

i'm originally from l.a., but i haven't been back in twelve years. i know that sf's amoeba opened a hollywood location a while back, so that's going to be a definite stop. rockaway, too.
I don't know how far out of the city you want to go, but Rhino Records in Claremont is a real nice place - a little small, but stocked with stuff college kids would bring from home and sell off for drug money.

i thought of rhino records today, but it was probably because i have a bunch of old wild man fischer stuff on my ipod, and this morning on my way to work he told me to go to rhino records on westwood boulevard, and that i could get herb alpert and jackie lomax for forty cents. da-doot da-dooo, da-doot da-dooo.

i don't know if i'll have time to get out to claremont, but that's certainly a good possibility. the stuff i'm looking for isn't really college kid material - i'm always hunting weird spoken word, easy listening/loungey stuff, but looking back on all the stuff i used to find there, i'm sure that won't be a problem either.

Oddly, I was just thinking about it the other day, since MuddDude brought home some album or another that was re-released through the Rhino Records label (although the record store isn't owned by the label anymore).
