eeePC. Do I want an Asus eeePC? [x-posted from askme][More:]I'd love to have an ultra portable (fits in my coat pocket?), ultra cheap computer for writing and internetting. Is this the machine for me, or is the keyboard too small? Anyone have any experience trying to write on one?
I've ordered one, but it hasn't arrived yet. I'm also worried about the keyboard being too small, so I look forward to any responses! My fingers aren't massive but I'm a bit of a masher typist.

If it comes in the next week or so I'll report back and/or shoot you an email if the thread's dead.

I'm a happy eee owner. Based on the forums at eeeuser.com it seems that 80-90% of people are satisfied with the keyboard. It only takes a couple days to get used to the size and the layout of the keys.

I want one (though I'd rather buy a weird old subnotebook, maybe a Thinkpad X30, and put a solid-state hard drive in it, because I'm a masochist). Does that mean that you, too, want one? Yeah, it probably does.

I thought hard about the eee, but I ended up buying an iPod Touch instead. But I had no intention of doing much writing on whichever thing I bought, just web browsing and some IM chat. I heard that the eee browser can be kind of frustrating (constant horizontal scrolling, etc) and the iPod's browser is really something amazing. And while the eee would've handled my music, I'm a happy iTunes user and syncing an SD card separately would've a bit of an annoyance. I would've ended up carrying around my old iPod anyway. So I ended up with the iPod Touch.

If the eee were already selling with internal 3g cards*, I may have gone with that. When they release it, I'll re-consider.

*Yes, I do know that there ways to hack one in yourself. I wasn't going to do that.
