chrismear Radio MetaChat. So, I'm going to try and do a radio set. Starting at 9:30pm GMT, 4:30pm EST.[More:]
I warn you now, it is going to be very random. And I'm not sure I've managed to figure out the technology yet. So it might be a complete and utter fail.
GO FOR IT! I like random.

I am warming up with a test track now, which is completely non-indicative of the stuff I'm about to play. But if you can hear Bill Evans, then it's working.

Oh, and I'll be in IRC if anyone wants to come and bitch at me, or whatever.

It's working.

Alright, here we go.

Yarg! I love that "Too drunk to fuck" song, I love that whole album but that song especially. But I had to tune out quick though because I had my 4 y.o. in here as I was listening. There aren't many songs I wouldn't let her listen to, but that's one of them. I'll tune back in in a few...

Aw, shit, sorry. I should have posted some kind of warning.

Anyone have any ideas why I can't connect to this? Neither WMP nor iTunes works -- generic 'network error' msg and hanging on 'connecting' respectively. Turning off Windows firewall makes no difference. Pinging kara.fast-serv.com (the stream server) works. I'm connecting through a college network, and I don't think it's ever worked for me in the past.

No prob. No harm done. Things like that keep me on my toes.

No idea, sorry matthewr. (It does sound like some kind of college- or uni-level blocking, though. Speaking from experience, it doesn't take much to ingratiate yourself with the powers-that-be; I once got them to reset the DNS cache for the entire uni network because one of the sites I run wasn't resolving properly, merely because I was the first person to email them in about a year with any vaguely technical knowledge...)

matthewr, the college might be blocking the port (9320). As a test, you might try to telmet to the port:

telnet kara.fast-serv.com 9320

(I don't think this will harm anyone.)

Great set chrismear!

That's all, folks! Set list taken (posthumously) from my MeFiSwap mix from last year. (Cheatin', kinda I know.)

Thanks for listening!

Yeah, it looks like 9320 is blocked. This might just be a college thing rather than uni-wide, so I'll try my faculty network on Monday. The college also blocks remote desktopping, which I have a legitimate need for, so I might try and get 9320 unblocked at the same time. The uni IT people are very competent, but my college ones are hopeless and would (hopefully) fall for any technical-sounding request.
