03 December 2007

Thinking of doing a January puzzle day some Sunday afternoon in San Francisco What do you all think? Meet-up with puzzles -- jigsaw, crosswords, Sodoku. Heck, bring yer knitting.

Think warm and toasty cafe on a cold Sunday.

What do you think? If all goes well I might plan a February craft day.
Sorry for being MIA (I've been over at MeFi some). And sorry for making such an unnecessarily long post (I think I've forgotten how to work the more inside over here).

Sounds like fun. I propose a rousing game of Trivial Pursuit. (Which I will win.)

Yay! Puzzles good! And I like Trivial Pursuit in theory, but I tend to suck at it in reality.

I was thinking of puzzles because then it can be one person (like, me, if no one else shows up) or 15 people.

Also, I got excited over in AskMe thinking about doing crafts as a way to get people to talk while they're doing something with their hands. But starting with a craft project seemed too hard. So then I thought I'd start with jigsaw puzzles.

If any of y'all are going to December 14 frjtz (or whatever), we can conspire. I won't post anything official until after that event.

Ooooh, another meetup on my birth side of the continent that I wish I could attend!...and if I were there, mudpuppie wouldn't speak so soon.

;-)

(I have never lost a game of Trivial Pursuit yet. Just sayin'.)

Oh nice. Games fluster me a little but what the hell, it'd be lovely to see you all.

Tangerine, you and I can peacefully do the jigsaw puzzle and chat and drink tea while others insist on competing. :)

That sounds like a challenge to me. So I'll rise to it: Not only will I beat you at Trivial Pursuit, but I'll drink you under the table in the process! Woo hoo!

Here are the questions from a Trivial Pursuit Rock & Pop card (I've been using it as a bookmark, and so it was on my desk):

- What sport does Rod Stewart consider making a living out of, in Maggie May?
Pool
- What table game is Ringo Starr's favorite?
Pool
- Who never wears a mac in the pouring rain, in Penny Lane?
The banker
What late-night music show was first hosted by Helen Reddy?
The Midnight Special
- Who enlisted four San Francisco 49ers for the chorus heard on Hip to Be Square?
Huey Lewis
- What's Roy told not to be, in Fifty Ways to Leave Your Lover?

Is there some kind of online Trivial Pursuit we could all get together and play one night? I would muchly like to kick all y'all's asses.

(There was a time when I would have threatened to drink pups under the table, too. But I am old now and have lost my booze-related super powers.)

Lordee loo, I said cafe, tea, jigsaw puzzles, converation. Now we have a Trivial Pursuit beer brawl! (Or donnybrook, as I say these days, having played 1200 hours of freerice.)

i say we start some cottage industry. Something not quite sweatshoppe so much as cozy busywork.
Something not quilting or bombmaking. Maybe jewelry making, electrotoys, or mixture making.

Enh, when I start to ask myself if I want another drink (and I'm not driving) is when I usually stop.

Three right off of box's card. Is that the red original? I have that set...my first one was stolen from my room in college sophomore year, but I was lucky enough to find another copy in Harvard Square--it is now deep in the bowels of storage. I have the 80's, 90's and book lovers editions in the hall closet.

It's from a little add-on set of Rock and Pop cards, not the much harder (for me at least) Baby Boomer Edition.

Since I mention it, which categories and question sets are easiest and hardest for people? I always have trouble with the Boomer card set, but I'm usually pretty strong on the '80s edition. The answer's always Reagan.

I won't say.....;-)

Incidentally, if people were into doing it, I don't see why we couldn't do an online Trivial Pursuit game right here on the site. Pick a time, pick somebody to be the game-haver/question-asker/dice-roller, pick some teams, and whoomp there it is. I think it could work.

Also, that reminds me of a trivia question (from my brain, not Trivial Pursuit): Two different musical groups had hits with 'There it is' songs during the '90s. Name them.
