O_o [More:]
I just got placed on the Steering Committee for the monster quality audit project I've been assigned to for the past 2 months.

(in case you're wondering, this entails making nice and working on plans / project documents and budget crap with the 3 mondo-mega executives at this site...)

ack.
I see a management job in your future... 'Cause if the audit is worthwhile, the 3 mondo-mega execs won't want all the additional work involved (just the credit), and if it isn't, they're going to want someone else to point that out. $$$ to you, if you play it right, either way!!

I see a management job in your future

paulsc, I dunno whether that's a compliment or not (I kid, I kid). Besides, I've never been anything but a secretary, so management's not really my style.

I just hope I don't fuck anything up. I have a bad habit of letting my Big Fat Yapper run without engaging the diplomacy filter. Dudes of this level generally don't like to be told the emperor has no clothes, y'know. At least not by the unwashed peasantry.

Don't get me wrong, I'm very flattered that they think this highly of my skills; regardless, it represents a pain in the ass of a whole other stripe: now that I'm not shut in a file room doing database management nerdery, I'll have to A: show up at or before 08.00 everyday and B: start dressing like I didn't actually roll out of some college kid's clothes hamper.

I'm just a slacker by nature, I guess. jonmc's bookstore job is looking more and more appealing.

and yea, this does represent some additional $. Whether or not that offsets the pain-in-the-ass and anti-slackery quotient remains to be seen.

Shouldn't a steering committee involve, you know, creating steers?

Sounds like an excellent opportunity - grab it by the (long)horns!

Maybe they want you because you will tell them straight up about the bumps and warts. Good for you!
