How's your weekend so far? [More:]
Mine's been pretty good.

Saturday I had a friend over for dinner. I made a fabulous chicken and leek casserole, using a tin of asparagus soup and lots of herbs.

Today I went to the farmer's market where I bought lots of lovely veggies, including these delicious things.

I took my camera for a walk through the forest this afternoon, and I'm listening to some lovely piano music at the moment, "Montana: A Love Story" by George Winston. Here's "Billy in the Lowland"

A quiet evening, the rest of the chicken casserole for dinner, with the alien cauliflower, probably.
Very awesome!
My roommate got a new-to-him van on Friday, so he picked me up for work and we had Italian for dinner. Hung with some friends listening to vintage records from our collections, which had grown since he also got his grandparents' old records. Went out for a bit where I may have reconnected with an ex (but I'm not holding out that we'll get back together or anything, it was just nice to see him again and stuff).
Went to Red Lobster last night since we couldn't get there on public transit and he had $50 in gift cards for it. I drank a giant fishbowl sized strawberry margarita, and went home to hang with friends and play video games.
Unfortunately my bad leg was in agony and a lack of sleep the previous night put me down for the count by 1. But still, a very good weekend.
We were joking that my job lets us live like kings if only because of the massive quantities of gift cards I accumulate.
Also... asparagus soup? The only kind I've seen here is the "cream of" concentrated varieties. Is it the same on your side of the pond?

Well, last night pips made alcoholic peach jell-o with vanilla vodka, so I got a little loaded. Now I'm having some Kahlua-laden coffee and listening to some neglected mp3's ('She's So far Out She's In' by the Power Plant at this exact moment). I may get the gumption to take a shower later if I'm feeling ambitious. Tommorrow I do laundry. Yesterday at work I found the novel Harold & Maude. I didn't even know it was based on a novel. I also found an old pulp sci-fi novel by an author with a rather odd nom de plume.

The asparagus soup wasn't concentrated, but it was 'cream of' so it made the casserole lovely and creamy. I browned the pieces of chicken (breast, no skin) first in the wok, then cooked a little garlic in the wok, so it took on the chicken juices, then put everything in the slow cooker with the tin of soup, a couple of chopped-up leeks and a pound of chanteray carrots (those little, fat sweet ones), along with some tarragon and a little parsley, and cooked it for a few hours on 'low' until it was all done.

What's happening with the barrista boy, kelly?

Oh, and every home should have a manly banister, jon.

It's been pretty good. I saw Lewis Black last night. Tonight I'm going to see Greg Hahn (this is for work). I'm thinking about roasting a chicken today.

NO CLUE! My friend Danielle was over, and getting her hair cut on my block, so we both stopped in for coffee. She couldn't tell if he was hitting on me or not, either! Said it seemed too friendly to be just professional work friendly, but might just be "I want to be friends with this person who lives in my hood" friendly. She pointed out that he uses my name a lot in conversation. "Hi Kelly, how are you, blah blah, Your costume was great, Kelly. blah blah, see you around, Kelly!" like, not just in greeting, but multiple times throughout a conversation. Unusually so, but not enough as to sound crazy.

Pretty good. Pretty pretty good. Had a relaxing birthday yesterday and now I'm gonna take my dog for her weekly run on the beach. Sunday is her favorite day.

That has to be a good sign, right, kellydamnit? Happy birthday for yesterday misslynster!

...Fabulous. I felt good yesterday for the first time in a couple of weeks (had tonsillitis and a viral infection), so had a lovely walk yesterday through the park to the farmer's market, where I proceeded to spend a whole lot, then came home to find a letter from the council tax valuation office - our request for rebanding was successful! We're looking at a £400 saving per year, plus back pay.

Then there were the fireworks from the next street over last night - forty minutes of great fireworks, seen clearly through our living room window while enjoying vodka and organic cold-pressed apple juice. Mmm.

I've got all my chores done today, including all the washing, making biscuits and submitting a claim to get our bond back from our last landlord, so am now enjoying playing a mindless computer game as I have been very productive all weekend :) I've also been listening to these great podcasts (via) of African and South American/ Caribbean music, which are fabulous, and I've now decided calypso and coffee will be great for breakfast this week.

Yesterday: Yoga, new guitar, family stuff, hanging with my friends at the local, etc.

We went to Berrington Hall and Croft Castle today. Took loads of images. Social Club tonight.

This has so far been the best weekend in ages. I have a rare weekend off (worked through my weekday day off and was rewarded with Saturday off), and it's been terrific. Yesterday morn my mom came by and she, Mr. V and I went out to breakfast. Mom's moved back from Seattle this week (her love affair didn't work out), YAY!! (Oh, not yay that the love didn't work out, but YAY she's back in Jersey). Then Mr. V and I visited his dad for a bit. Ordered dinner out, and had a lovely, restful evening. *wink, wink, nudge, nudge*

Today - fresh bagels for breakfast! Really fresh, I had to wait for them to come out of the bakers' oven. It's been chilly, so we're just puttering around the house, enjoying our company. I really needed such a relaxing weekend, and so did Mr. V, so this has been heavenly.

Spent Friday evening, part of Saturday evening and most of today at my parents' place as my sister was down with ny 2½-year-old niece. I can't believe how much she's changed in the last couple of months! Saturday morning was spent in work trying to get more stuff done because the forthcoming week is going to be crazy busy. I've eaten waaaaaaaaay too much food recently, especially this weekend, and I need to exercise more. And eat less. Stupid body.

Caught up on my Greek homework last night and this morning. Still have about six translations to do. But I've got until tomorrow night to do them. So I'll take a shower and head outside to enjoy the little bit of sunlight we're going to get today.

This song has been in heavy rotation at my house ever since I heard it on nickyskye's recent Mefi post.

And I've been googling menopause, longingly.

....but anyways the sun was so nice I headed down to the seafront for oysters, you know the place. After two I just left them, things don't taste right at the mo. Disappointed in myself.

I am having a visit from aunty flo myself. I think I am getting broody, as I am REALLY WANTING A KITTEN, or perhaps two, and my php/mysql project is going well.

It was going just fine, until I discovered Dwarf Fortress earlier today. When I came to my senses a few minutes ago, I discovered that I had been playing for six hours.

Cool pic!

I mixed up some peanut butter cookie dough and it's in the fridge, chilling. I'll throw in the first batch just before hubby gets home (he's at an appointment) and it'll smell like love.

(NOT cilantro.)

Still trying to de-stress. Too bad the work week will be here before it happens.

Mudpuppie, woo!

MGL, good pic!

Friday night I went to a BBQ place and went to the movies with the husbandperson.

Saturday the boys and I did a food drive and then we visited my parents. We all went to Walmart together and hung out at their house for hours.

Today I made the remainder of pillows out of Sunbrella that I was talking about here not too long ago. I went to Target too and bought a bunch of v-neck long-sleeve T-shirts that were on sale. I ran into three people I knew. Of course they looked pulled together and gorgeous and I looked like Haggis McBaggis.

I had a rather rough weekend.

Found out late Friday night that my Gram passed away...last living grandparent I had. It precipitated a phone conversation with my dad, who I hadn't spoken to in over two years, which was rough, but led to a reconciliation of sorts, so I guess that's good.

Told my boyfriend I loved him this morning. He didn't say anything, just held my hand, which wasn't entirely unexpected. At least he didn't run from the house screaming.

Sigh. Can't believe I have to go to work tomorrow morning after all this.

Saturday we said goodbye to an old friend who's moving back out west, where he's from. That sucked, but was good, as those things go. Sat. night I cracked open the used copy of "Silent Hill 2" I'd bought earlier this week and was up till 6 AM(!!) playing that damn game. Beer was involved.

Today was "recovery mode." Unexpectedly awesome lunch at Ted's Montana Grill (we were going to the place next door, but they had a 25 minute wait and we were starving) followed by a lot of hanging around the house listening to Brian Eno music and thinking, "It's so gorgeous out, I should go somewhere and take pictures," but I stayed home and napped. There was a brief flurry of HMS and now I've had one too many beers and should be in bed. G'nite, all.

Add me into the members of Red Team Vag.

Friday:
Had 10 minute appointment with completely incompetent GP who had people popping in and out of the room the whole time; she ordered bloodwork, but I've arranged to have the results sent to me, so I can show them to other doctors on my search for someone better. Went to gym. Went to Shabbat service which included dinner because it was the first one of the month--every month has a different theme; this time it was Yiddish, complete with klezmer musicians. Bought books. Went to Joe Strummer midnight movie.

Saturday: Went to Christo doc and Franco-era Spanish movie at MOMA, then to Washington Heights for pupusas and Annie Lennox concert. She was wonderful, but there was a coked-up woman who kept trying to crowd into my space.

Sunday: Went to brunch for new members of the synagogue at a Soho loft. Put swimsuit, cap and goggles in my purse to go swimming at gym, but forgot lock. Found out that Kaiser-era German porcelain firm can paint blanks to one's specifications. Bought chocolate. Forgot to go to Home Depot to reorder washer and dryer. Tried to go to midtown to find new fall coat, but realized it was marathon day and didn't want to fight my way through crowds. Went to dinner in East Village, then mostly depressing documentary about the people on Hollywood Bl.who dress up like popular characters and hustle for cash--this is fairly new; I don't remember them being there when I left LA seven years ago and I went to the Egyptian quite often. There's now a sign in front of the Chinese theater reading something to the effect of "these people are not here with our consent", though they are free to be outside property lines.

Must be why I'm rather unexpectedly having cramps. *shakes bunny fist*

For the weekend, we did nothing but cook and eat, eat and cook. We put off a bit of important domestic labor from Saturday to Sunday, then from Sunday to today. Today we're saying tomorrow morning.

I am tired and also so extremely sore that I had difficulty lifting a stack of magazines. Not even fully picking them up, but just pushing them up a little at the end to pull one out.

On the other hand it was a beard spectacular this weekend. So that was pretty awesome.
