My bunny is a Californian - "the second most popular meat-producing breed in the world". It's an ongoing conversation in my house about how tasty he would be.
My parents used to raise rabbits for food, back in the day. They would tell us kids it was chicken, but I'm sure my older brothers knew better. I don't even know if it's possible to get it in town.
Two blocks away, we have a tiny locally-owned market, with a small case of fruit and veg, some packaged goods, bulk goods and spices, a deli, and a small butcher counter. It's great, but the goods are understandably limited.
Imagine my astonishment to find a whole rabbit in the freezer case. I remarked upon it to the butcher and he said, "Oh, yeah, we usually have a couple."
I warned my strictly vegetarian partner that the day will come when I fricassee a rabbit in our tiny kitchen. Oh, yes, I will.
