heh. I don't know what's going on with the music on that page, chuckd, but it sounds like an LP being played at 78rpm - like Alvin and the Chipmunks. Is no one else hearing that?
Anyway, I bet it is great; I adore Alison Krauss, and the pairing with Plant is probably brilliant.
my microphone wasn't working just before my husband left and he was frantically trying to find the problem before leaving and fiddled with some settings, so he must have done something then. It's pretty funny - even my mp3s sound like this now. Wow. I'm trying to see what might have been changed, but he'll be back on Monday in case I can't work it out.
Awesome! I've been looking forward to hearing this since I heard about it. Intriguing, to be sure, but it sounds pretty good. I Love Alison Krauss, although I only have one and a bit of her albums. I need more but can't afford them at the moment and piracy isn't something I do.
I agree with your sentiment that T. Bone Burnett is incapable of making a bad record. No matter who he works with, he gets an incredible, haunting sound with his stamp on it. His production sensibility is eerily powerful.
Though I know it is some kind of folk/trad sin to say it, I am not a huge Alison Kraus fan. The otherwordly pure perfection of her voice is gorgeous, but always hits my ear as too pretty, a fine glass filigree of a voice that doesn't blend in any believable way with a music form that is rootsy, heartfelt, rough, and humble. But from what I hear in the samples, this is just what she needed. The balance of the weird wail of Robert Plant with the spooky production style of Burnett gives her voice a context which saves it from being a mere church-solo voice and gives it some depth.
Thanks! I'm SO glad to be able to hear this.
Mr. T Bone, if you're listening, come record me, please
