Ask Mecha: If I was starting one, I'd call it 'Cook' So, I want a site that's along the same lines as Make or Craft (both kinda geeky DIY sites), except about food and cooking. Does such a thing exist? If not, what's the next best thing?
recipezaar.com?

I don't know of a similar food site, but thanks for those links, box. I see a major timesink in my future as I get sidetracked all over them. Whee!

Happy to help, elizard. I was just about to say the same thing to Lori and chuckd (Public Enemy number one!).

DAMMIT! That was my name for that idea. Let's pitch it to O'Reilley together.

Triode, my friend, you can have all the money and all the credit--I'd be happy just to see a site like that exist.

Will this statement come back to haunt me, right around the time that Google buys the Cook website/magazine empire, and Triode and Nigella Lawson run away to a tropical island together? Maybe.

Go, go. It's a great idea. Don't worry too much about the beginning stages - that kills great ideas. Just get moving. Register the domain and start.

I am intrigued by your ideas and wish to subscribe to your newsletter. Seriously, sign me up, dude.

Here's a couple food blogs that spring to mind in the same spirit:

cooking for engineers is probably one of the better known. He created a bit of a splash when he started up with his graphical recipe presentation (scroll to the bottom to see what I mean).

One of the oddest/most innovative food blogs I've found is IDEAS IN FOOD (WARNING: today's recipe is not for the squeamish---it's a pig's head). It's run by a couple who happen to be accomplished chefs. Some of the food is very odd. For instance, how would you garnish your new sweet corn ice cream? With tequila-infused caviar and tubes of pumpernickel, of course.

It looks like cook.com is a food related search engine. Y'all might have to come up with a penny or two to buy it out.

cookzine.com seems to be available, though. Is that the kind of thing that gets people sued?

cookabite.com is also available.
