My boyfriend and his best friend -- an Esperanto teacher -- traveled through Eastern Europe using a network of Esperanto speakers. Basically, people across the world who speak the language will house travelers who speak it.

I think it's kind of nifty that they were able to find, and communicate well with, people from such different backgrounds, and people with whom they otherwise wouldn't have been able to converse.
