The album Drums and Guns by Low, keeps getting better the longer I listen to it. A few songs from the album, plus some older tracks, inside.[More:]

Hatchet "Let's bury the hatchet like the Beatles and the Stones."
Murderer One of the darker songs on this album
Belarus

My favorite Low album is Secret Name, the first one where their music became a little bit gritty. It contains my favorite Low song, Two Step. (Another good one: Lion/Lamb)

The first Low song I ever heard, from The Curtain Hits The Cast: Over The Ocean

And finally a couple from The Great Destroyer- their most commercial album, but since it was written during a bit of a breakdown experienced by singer Alan Sparhawk, also at times, a little bit harrowing. These are two of the more uplifting ones:

California
Walk Into The Sea

The first Low song I ever heard, from The Curtain Hits The Cast: Over The Ocean

Me too! Great album.

I was just a little let down by Guns and Drums, actually. I like selected songs quite a bit, but overall, well, The Great Destroyer just reached in and grabbed me hard and rearranged chunks of my brain. There are great songs on G&D, but nothing brain-rearranging, at least for me. I do love some of the weird electronic experimentation, especially the big, sweeping noises in the background of "Violent Past" and the whole package with Mimi's mix of "Hatchet."

I actually got to interview Alan Sparhawk a few months after Destroyer came out; that was a really cool conversation.

I was in a band that opened for Low many years ago and, as you would expect, they were really nice people. I also had the misfortune of having their music ruined by a bi-polar roommate who would throw them on at high volumes whenever he had his, uh, low periods.

They are a really great band that was taylor made for the terms "soaring" and "majestic," though. I'll have to check out this album. Thanks for the links, BP.

Oh man. Silver Rider, from The Great Destroyer, is one of the most moving statements about a crisis of religion and a crisis of longing that I've ever heard. Heartbreaking.

I love Drums and Guns. TGD had some great moments, but I skip over some of the more "rock-y" songs.
