Free Lunchtime lecture in London 23rd August 1pm. [More:]'A Visible Difference: skin, race and identity 1720-1820' ....by Temi Odumosu, Director of The Image of Black and guest curator at the Hunterian Museum, Royal College of Surgeons of England.

To commemorate the UNESCO International Day for the Remembrance of the Slave Trade and its Abolition, Temi will talk about the exhibition currently on show at the Hunterian Museum. Temi will share her research into the forgotten and often unknown histories of the black Africans, both enslaved and free, who feature in the exhibition.

I can't make this but really, really wanted to. Any bunnies interested?
I'm at work that day but I'm not sure it'd be my cup of tea anyway.

The Image of Black's site is an interesting one, but the choice of quote for the front page and it being the only quote feels weird. Not that I know a whole bunch about the representation of blacks in European art for my personal weird feelings to be very meaningful.

Interestingly, the exhibit has a focus on historical depictions of vitiligo and albinism.
