AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!
posted by gomichild 18 August | 12:25
Well, based on the fact that after I clicked the link I involuntarily shrieked, "Gaaah!" I think it's SCARY.

You should've been standing next to me when it flew an inch from my face.

(this was taken in a very, very darkened room)

I'm bat biased, so I'm going with cute.

There is nothing better than standing out on a ridge with bats swooping around your head eating the insects your carbon dioxide is attracting. Awesome.

I like bats too. So a cute from me.

Hmm, chuck. How did the bat get into your house? Is it wild? Not to cause hysteria, but my old editor was obsessed with rabies and was always talking about how any time you saw a bat in your house you HAD to get a rabies shot.

(Take this with a grain of salt, as this was a man who kept a sweet potato on his desk for almost six months. For no apparent reason.)

Cute. I love bats.

I just noticed- he's been banded! Somebody is tracking that little guy's movements.

I vote for cute.

I have to know where you saw the white lions, though!

I am all for those creepy little insect-eater-uppers as long as they aren't too close to me. Cute when not close up - scary as crap when close up.

FUCKING SCARY!!! Same goes for snakes!

cute, bats are cute.
posted by jessamyn 18 August | 18:44
Can I vote ugly but not scary? Bats are neat.

Bats are flying rats.

i like 'em when they're not all up in my face.
That goes for a lot of things.
The more bug eating the better.

There is a bat exhibit at the Safari Park in Bewdley... there are almost 50 bats in this walk-through enclosure (they fool the animals into thinking that it's nighttime)... the smell is oppressive.

No rabies; it's a zoo.
posted by chuckdarwin 18 August | 19:58
BP - he is a zoo specimen, which explains the bands.

I have to know where you saw the white lions, though!

The West Midlands Safari Park has loads of young lions running 'free'.

It makes me think of that episode of Dirty Jobs when they are in the bat cave and have to wear the respirators, Mike getting caught in the quicksand like guano...

Bats are flying rats.

Nah, bats eat bugs, so they're ok in my book. I don't think they're cute though.
posted by puke & cry 18 August | 22:39
What, can't it be both?
posted by CitrusFreak12 18 August | 23:34
Cute. And it has attitude. Make that battitude.

Love it. Another bat fan here. My favorite part of twilight in the summer is watching the bats come out and dart around. Unfortunately, I have not seen any this summer. I think the bats have left the belfry. (tee hee)
