25 July 2007

Spoilers and the discussing thereof. I've hacked in a basic change to stop spoilers appearing in the recent comments list. If you're want to talk about the latest Harry Potter book or the true identity of Luke Skywalker's father then including the text "Spoiler" in the post title will black out any comments in said recent comments list. Go on - Try it in here.
I like to hump my couch with a flower stuck in every orifice.

I don't think I understood your instructions.
posted by WolfDaddy 25 July | 17:32
well - that's not working....
posted by seanyboy 25 July | 17:33
It's working in the other thread.
posted by dersins 25 July | 17:34
And now it's working on this one.
posted by dersins 25 July | 17:41
Aha. StrPos returns false as well as zero.
Noob mistake.

WolfDaddy ... Follow the Recent Comments link for examples.
All comments for posts containing the text "spoiler" in the post title are blacked out.

Yes. Yes it is. Would you like a flower?
posted by WolfDaddy 25 July | 17:42
As one of my ears is sore at the moment, I will only require three flowers.
Thankyou.

Very cool! Thanks.

Not that I've been annoyed by spoilers lately. But I've often thought that I could be. And that would be a catastrophe of near-apocalyptic proportions. Possibly.

I'm sure you can find more than three orifices (orifici?), seanyboy.

So, Luke Skywalker is Harry's real dad? I suppose that sort of thing is unlikely to happen by accident, at least quite so neatly, but links are still sort of visible.

Thank you seanyboy, I had forgotten that the "Recent Comments" even existed when I did my recent spoilerific post... obvious that is the one place you can get exposed to everything that can emit from a Bunny, whether you want it or not...

Now if you can just make it possible to blank out references to goatse, LOLCATS, Bill O'Reilly and cilantro, everybunny will be happy!

How does one read, then, the spoiler comments?
posted by mischief 25 July | 20:04
Oh, never mind, I didn't realize what 'recent comments' meant.
posted by mischief 25 July | 20:05
Spoiler: I am Twinkie.
posted by ThePinkSuperhero 25 July | 20:17
but... twinkies NEVER spoil...
posted by wendell 25 July | 20:26
That's excellent. Thank you, seanyboy.

Totally rad. Nice work!

Also, having signed up in the past week or so, now I know about the recent comments feature.

The spoiler guard is totally cool and oh so teasingly tempting.
Can't wait for the next one...
...muhahahaha...
posted by ethylene 26 July | 00:39
And trying to figure out what three holes seanyboy claims to have is a devilishly pretzel.
posted by ethylene 26 July | 00:43
devilishly twisted mental pretzel.
posted by ethylene 26 July | 00:44
Okay, can I just say (without using the S-word -- because I'd really like the comment to show up) that this might get really annoying if it's used this much once its novelty wears off?

Hopefully it'll wear off fast.
posted by mudpuppie 26 July | 01:20
Not that simple, mudpuppie. Once the thread is tagged as a spoiler thread, all comments in that thread are hidden in recent comments. I think it could get annoying too, but don't think it will come up too often once this thread scrolls off.
posted by dg 26 July | 02:05
Interesting. Mouse over the blackout on my previous comment.
posted by mischief 26 July | 02:37
Thanks seanyboy! I usually don't care about spoilers, but I'm not allowed to read Harry Potter VI: Adrian's Revenge until after a big important test I must study for. Most of my online surfing is pretty safe, but it's been pretty touch-and-go in the "Recent Comments" section here.

...of course, those wee black bars are so tempting. Just a little peek...

There was a power failure when Metallica played in Århus, Denmark the other night. || I'm watching Lou Dobbs.
