There was a power failure when Metallica played in Århus, Denmark the other night. The computers recording the show for the LiveMetallica.com website went down and only the second half of the concert was recorded. To compensate for the problems they decided to put the concert up for free download. Rock on, bunnies! [More:] You have to register for the site and download the concert through an annoying Java client but hey, you can't argue with free.
Free... Download... Metallica...

One of these words is not the same as the others.

Rock shows + power outages can be transcendant. One of my most fondly held memories is seeing Yo La Tengo playing in the SU at school in '92 or so. The band was 15 minutes into a full-bore feedback freakout when they blew the building breakers. The amps died in a gargle of static, and after a second the emergency lighting kicked on. In an instant, the room went from dark and loud to silent and floodlit; everyone looked around, blinking and sweat-faced, as though we had all awoken from the same fever-dream at once. It was utterly magnificent.

I saw radiohead in a [largeish] high school auditorium in Cleveland on the OK Computer tour. The power went out, and Thom just kept singing and playing. He was clearly audible for a verse and a chorus of 'exit music'.

The power came back up for the end, and it was (dare I say) transcendent stuff.

'Where's my goddamned drink?' he asked when it was over.

Uh, I saw Radiohead at Pukkelpop 2000 (forget tour name) and the power went out during a song there too. Everyone in the tent hushed as we listened to them keep singing and playing and it was all quite intimate despite the size of the tent. Practically everyone in the tenth held up a lighter and it was very very neat. Perhaps it was on purpose?

(I'm not a radiohead fan, went with friends that's why I can't recall song or tourname. They were great in concert though would see them again.)
