Say hello to a working man! →[More:] I interviewed at the New York independent bookstore (the one who's name rymes with 'one man band') and they hired me on the spot. The pay's not fantastic, but the guy whop hired me says that merit raises come quick and that it's a union shop. So you guy's will be hearing less from me but maybe that'll be a relief.

It's just retail, but at the same time that might be what I need right now. (The other nibbles I got were all vaguely hinky sales jobs). Just a low-pressure workaday thing. I start tommorrow.

I'm a card carrying freak, vix, so that won't be a big deal. Plus I spent 5 yeras working in a bookstore so it'll be like old home week only in a more exciting area.

Maybe I'll start blogging about life again since I'll be out in the world rather than stewing in my own juices. I saw some of my old stuff on the wayback machine a few weeks ago and got all wistful and shit.

If it's the bookstore I'm thinking of that rhymes with one man band, i hope you can bring an attitude of helpfulness to the staff there, which has always struck me as being composed almost entirely of snotty, snobby jackholes.

Does this place have special collections or strictly new books?

I always wanted to work in a bookstore. The thought of working the floor and combing for mis-shelved books just does something for me.

Are you kidding me? Famous Independent Bookstore is nothing BUT freaks. Staff. Customers. Everybody. At least, that's how it was when I worked there back in '94.

Interesting thought though: If I managed a place along the lines of a bookstore and I knew a prospective hire was an active member of MetaFilter, I would certainly be more likely to give them (with a few exceptions) the gig.

Is this the same bookstore that professes to have a few miles of books? If so... sweet! That store is the first indie bookstore one I ever went into and I have a fondness for it. Congratulations on having gainful employment again.
