I done stumped AskMe. [More:]I know, unbelievable. I gave as much information as I could remember, but it wasn't as much as I thought I would remember. Still, I thought it might be enough for someone somewhere to come up with the answer.

It wasn't.

If AskMe cannot help, the terrorists have won!

So, any joy if I bring this to a wider audience? Or did you all already read it and just not answer? Or snark and got your comments deleted? HOPE ME
Could you phone the store and ask them if it was a CD or a radio station and take it from there?

I know the answer, I just don't want to tell you.

the above is not true

If you didn't memorize at least one line from the song, you may be boned. Sorry. Do you think you could try to remember a line or two, or at least a rhyme you noticed?

Maybe Sunday just isn't a good day for AskMe; nobody's at work.

Well, if there's anyone who can stump AxMe, it'd be you! :-)

See, you added more details in your follow-up. What else have you thought of since then? The man wasn't Nat King Cole, was he?

Oh, and I spent about half an hour on this. Not knowing if the googleable word is pretend or pretending, or swallow or swallowing, or maybe bury or burying....that kind of thing makes me nuts because I have to keep changing the words and I never know when I've hit the right combination.

You say big band... do you mean like old school jazz stuff? Or pop big band like Doris Day used to do?

Call the store and ask please, please, please. And then don't even dare not telling us! :)

Have you googled Blossom Dearie? She's often compared to Betty Boop, and has done tons of duets. Her heydey was in the 50s and 60s I think.

I tried, too -- I have some basic familiarity with standards from the American Songbook, but this just didn't ring a bell. Sorry!

I'm thinking it's a more obscure out of print tune. I'm very familiar with those but there's just not enough to go on since there are literally hundreds of thousands and their lyrics aren't online. I know a lot of tunes with similar themes but am not sure I can narrow it down enough with what I know right now.

It was probably a CD, and sounded very clean. So it must have been remembered enough to get a CD remaster. ;-)

At the moment I'm having trouble determining just the name of the store. They're shutting down (hence some urgency if I go this route) and everything was marked down "50-75% under sticker", and apparently they weren't bothering with receipts.

All I've managed to date is to find out the name the store used to be, no word on whether current owners using that name. *sigh*

Let's just smile and pretend nothing's the matter, while shit still keeps happening || You know what would have been more useful?
