One Night in Heaven: Who would you go gay or straight for, for one night? Could be someone in the public eye or someone you know personally.
Who would you go gay or straight for, for one night?

Springsteen on general principles, and he is a good-looking guy. Chris Cornell from Soundgarden for similar reasons. There's an actor named John Corbett who's character on Northern exposure was cool and is a handsome bastard, too.

I have a slight girl crush on Hef's girlfriend Holly Madison, which is odd because I don't usually go for blondes of either gender.
posted by amro 30 April | 11:16
I know I have a girl crush on someone but I can't remember who it is....d'oh. In case I don't remember, I'd pick Michelle Pfieffer, who is still ubergorgeous.

I think the girl who plays....Cassie? on Grey's Anatomy is sexy too, although it might just be her hair. When I find a woman attractive it's usually because I want to look like her or parts of her.

Callie, iconomy?

Yeah, Callie, thanks! I love her hair and her eyes and her personality.

ico, are you talking about this lady? She's so hot she makes me want to howl at the moon.
posted by jonmc 30 April | 11:28
Speaking of Grey's Anatomy, Sandra Oh. I'm watching old episodes of Six Feet Under, and in the first season she guest stars as a porn star (attending a funeral). Even with a fake silver wig and anime-like clothing/makeup, her absolutely fantastic cheekbones completely slayed me.

(ten cent observation: the women's choices so far seem to be geared towards admiring beauty or style, the men's (I'm the only one, show some guts guys) seem to be halfways about hero worship. What this means, I have no idea)

I've been wracking my brain on this and, honestly, there isn't a woman I'd want to take to bed.

My list is quite ready and fairly long, so, well, that says something.

From the other side (gay going straight), I can't think of anyone in the public eye. But those punkish lesbians who hang out at places like the Lexington bar in SF really get me going sometimes. And there's a barista at a local coffeeshop who I believe is an FTM in the very early stages that I have a bit of a crush on.

jonmc, what you say about beauty vs hero worship sounds right on target for my (mostly) straight friends.

treepour: yeah, I've occasionally wondered how gay dudes separate the typical growing-up 'man he's cool, I wish I could be like him' feelings from the crush/romantic feelings. OTOH, I can't deny that all my choices are good looking dudes and even of a similar type.
posted by jonmc 30 April | 12:03
jonmc is so right about the hero-worship thing. If someone asked me this, I'd fire off some silly answer like John McClane or Steve McQueen.

What's the deal with Sandra Oh? She was one of People Magazine's 50 sexiest people, apparently. I don't see it, myself.

Also - was that John Corbett guy you mentioned ever on Sex and City? (and I realise I just lost about 50,000 manliness points for asking that - I'll spend the next week chopping wood and frying bacon naked to make up for it).
posted by matthewr 30 April | 12:10
yeah, he was. But his Northern Exposure character was where he was a cool dude. He played an ex-con radio DJ/poet from West Virginia living in the Alaskan Outback. That's pretty cool.

Yup, he was Carrie's boyfriend/fiance, Aidan. He was on the show on and off for several seasons.
posted by ThePinkSuperhero 30 April | 12:13
His portrayal of Aidan on SATC was hot. I loved his voice and his demeanor.

Speaking of sexy voices, I would love to have sex with Alan Rickman's voice. First I would have to figure out how to have sex with a voice though.

And Grace Kelly's voice too, to keep this thread on -topic ;)

I've never actually thought about this. I guess falling for guys that you don't have that hero-worship feeling about makes a difference. Though I'm not sure that gay guys do as much of that "I wish I could be like him" sort of idolizing -- and they may even be more inclined to do it with powerful/successful/glamorous women (e.g., Madonna, at least back when I was coming out). And this seems relevant -- looking back on my hero-worship kinds of crushes, I never felt tremendously sexually turned on by them. Kinda sorta, but not much compared to my "ordinary/everyday" sorts of crushes.

And, yes, you have good taste. :)

Dita Von Teese. Vivian Leigh. Rose McGowan (before she lost all the weight).

Clearly, I have a type.

My answer used to be John Anderson of Yes until I actually saw a picture of John Anderson of Yes. Nowadays, when I'm kind of over prog rock, I don't know why that was ever my answer.

I'm vaguely remembering that there's a current actor that I said would get a yes, but now I can't remember who it was. I remember that it was purely physical: I don't particularly want to fuck my heroes.

You and Marilyn Manson both.

Frightening, isn't it, amro?

Colin Meloy. Maybe Jon Stewart. I obviously go for brians. I would not kick Rufus Wainwright out of the sack, either.
posted by danf 30 April | 14:32
John Wilkes Booth or Napoléon Bonaparte (as long as he agreed to keep the hat on). Preferably both at the same time.
posted by Hellbient 30 April | 14:33
I used to have a girl-crush on Angelina Jolie but I think I've grown out of it. Dita Von Tease would make for an interesting evening though....something to think about.

(what are the parameters if you're bi?)
posted by Luminous Phenomena 30 April | 15:25
Heh. About a decade ago we had this conversation in mixed company. I was the first guy to be able to say anything -- an unreserved "Nicolas Cage". Because, I said, I thought he'd be interesting.

I dunno if I'm still interested, Nic. Drop me a line. We can talk. ;-)

I do admit to e.g. a giant and completely non-sexual man-crush on David Beckham among a few others. Jarvis Cocker, I suppose, because all his song lyrics are complete sentences. But this isn't that kind of crush.

And somewhere in the same philosophical space, I could totally go for a tomboy lesbian with adolescent-boy looks.

And again, not entirely unrelated, if I could pick any actress, it would have to be Jodie Foster. Er, whoops!

I'd count on 86 to make me see the error of my ways.

Of course, I mean 99!!! (One more error ... sigh)
posted by rob511 30 April | 18:27
Once upon a time it was Angelina Jolie, but that passed. Then it was Carmen Electra, which is still a possibility. Right now...I really can't think of anyone. Oh, wait! Isla Fisher!

Yo, we bisexuals have a problem with this here hypothetical situation. Figures, though - we're the redheaded bastard step-children of Queerdom.

deborah, I think I'll go with Eddie Izzard, in drag of course. I think it's the only natural extension to the hypothetical, as far as I can telll. Three cheers for genderqueers!
