Grandmas are pretty nifty to have around [More:]My grandmother is staying with me this week-my grandfather died in February and this is the first time she's left California without him. She's bouncing between my house and my parents and I have visitation this week. I came down with some jungle dengue type virus and she's been all fussy, making soup and adjusting my blankets and just grandma-y. Now she's in my yard cutting flowers to put on my nightstand.

I haven't had this much attention in years :)
Haha that sounds wonderful, Holly :)

Could she come to my house next? We have a spare room. : )

(Hope you feel better, HGH!)

I'm so sorry to hear about your grandfather, Holly. But it's awesome that you get to spend time with your grandmother. I lost my mommom about 15 years ago and I STILL miss her dreadfully. I was really wishing she was here when my kids were born. She would have doted on me the way your grandmother is doting on you. Hope you feel better soon!

I wish I had had grandparents when I was a kid. Sadly, they all died before or soon after I was born.

My father was completely different as a grandfather. One of my little nieces used to bop him in the head repeatedly with a throw pillow and yell, "Dumpkoff!" And all he did was laugh his low, deep, slow heh, heh, heh laugh. Me or my brothers back in the day would've been running for our lives.

Awww, that's great. Fresh flowers too./

Yesss, Grandma's rule, we all want to be loved and pampered.

It's great she's getting away for the first time without Grandpa. Grandma's are strong though, if family visits and keeps in touch and doesn't neglect them. Sad to hear of your Granpa's passing away.
My Grandpa died when he was 76. We sold their house and moved her into her own apartment in my Mother's and my building. There was always visiting. When she was 96, we had to move her to a home. We didn't want her burning the joint down. She wasn't happy, at first, but soon liked it, there were way more people around her. She's l04 and still kickin' at the home. We bring her some vodka at Christmas for pre dinner shots. She loves it.

You'll be getting well, but don't forget your Grandma. I love mine.

Yeah, Grandma's rule. I lost my favorite Grandmom at 82 from colon cancer - she never had a chance to meet my first son. But my Grandad did. Now, I've lost all but my father's mother, who I don't particularly care for. I miss my grandparents a lot.
I also was lucky enough to have had a Nana and a Pop-Pop. They weren't blood related; they were the parents of my uncle (married to my mom's sister). Nana always had homemade popsicles in the freezer, and Pop-pop cut me flowers from his garden every spring. I miss them too.
