These Songs For You For ethylene, or for anybody, here are some links to .mp3s. I hope folks will add their own, too.
Stevie Wonder - A Place in the Sun (Classic early Stevie--I listen to this song when I'm sad, or when I'm happy.)

El Michaels Affair - Hung Up On My Baby
(It's that new soul that sounds old--if you don't know the original version of this song, maybe you'll know the song that sampled it.)

William Parker and the Little Huey Creative Music Ensemble - The Bluest J (orchestral free jazz--full disclosure: 36 mb, 26 minutes.)

Aww, thanks, box.
Now maybe i will have the will to get properly attired and stop looking like some deranged half conscious milk maid.

The cartoon songs I posted earlier this week are still available, eth.

People should just suggest things for me to get in my download days to be. God, i hate having to get things all over again again. i've had so many copies of things that there are something i know i have paid for at least twice and will never feel guilt for owning in any form again.
It's the untouched yet unexperienced stuff that's gone that stings the most.

Upon further reflection, these songs may not be what you want at all. I hope somebody else has the Shins, Arcade Fire, Decemberists, etc.

Antibalas - Filibuster X
(From that newish Security album--12 minutes of Afrobeat, and some political commentary)

Bill Laswell and Style Scott - Emergency at the Plant (It's that new dub that sounds old.)

Cedric IM Brooks - Satta Massa Ganna (roots reggae, with more than a little bit of dub and jazz in it, from one of Jamaica's great horn players)

i like all kinds of music, i was just reeling off some of the new stuff i hadn't even had time with on this thing that i lost.
i lost all my chococat and cortex songs as well.
*sigh*
Some early 20th century stuff would be nice, too.
Right now i must want stuff that will keep me motivated.
Long row to hoe and all.

Johnnie Taylor - Little Bluebird (from the previously-unreleased Live at the Summit Club album--Concord just acquired Stax, and, if this (recorded at the time of Wattstax) is any indication, there are a lot of great releases to come.)

Mr. Dibbs - Ugly and Proud, pt. 3 (Cincinnati turntablist who used to hang out with the 1200 Hobos, but now hangs out with the Rhymesayers folks, and El-P, and Puffy.)

Fela Kuti and Afrika '70 - Zombie
(late great king of Afrobeat.)

This is robably the most perfect pop song ever recorded. It lifts my heart every time I hear his pure, sweet voice. He died a heroin addict, at 25 years old.

Cool song, ej.

Della Humphrey - Dream Land (my favorite version of one of my favorite Lee Perry rhythms (hiya, hellbient))

Segun Bucknor - That's The Time (Nigerian music from a Fela contemporary--other than that, just listen.)

Philip Cohran and the Artistic Heritage Ensemble - Detroit Red (Chicago art-jazzers record a Malcolm X tribute--this part's supposed to represehis hustling years.)

'represent his'

Thanks, right now i'm hunting up some old atlantic rhythm and blues, motown and stax stuff that might keep me motivated. Next i'll need my old powerpoppiness and noise motivators.
Goddammit Everything this metachatters have shared with me is gonesville.

hey box...

eth - are you looking for stuff to paint to?
No metal, I take it?
posted by Hellbient 30 March | 13:35
Metal would be okay, i lost all that stuff you posted, but right now i'm just stocking up whatever i can think of i lost or want to hear now. Bowie springs to mind and stuff like big star and the jam. Our dundeian contingent. i jibe with most of our musical diversities here, from twenties to forties radio days to indie elites and classics.
Good boogie beats and fun things to keep my momentum rolling might be good. i like the randomness from obscure and freshly hatched to standards people come up with.

RECREATION IS NOT LIKE CREATION OR RECREATION. IT'S JUST A DRAG.

All those time expired mp3 nuggets i've culled form the web, lost... phhtt...
anyone just post whatever you'd like to share. i use to do it all the time and i might do more later to send stuff from old comps to this one.

Hey, how does one turn vox audio bits into mp3s again?

Burial - Southern Comfort (instrumental dubstep from last year)
Einstürzende Neubauten - Sand (industrial legends do a Lee Hazelwood classic)
Breadwinner - Knighton (sick instrumental math metal)
Alpha & Omega - Dub Ammunition (great 90's UK dub)
posted by Hellbient 30 March | 15:06
Secret Frequency Crew - Deep Blue (dubby minimal electronic music)
Matthew Shipp Duo with William Parker - Summertime (adventurous piano/bass duo plays the standard)
posted by box 30 March | 15:27
actually, that Alpha & Omega track is from 2005. My bad.
posted by Hellbient 30 March | 15:53
