Patrick Wolf "The Magic Position" Cool, catchy music (with a video that's not as good as the song)... I like this a lot.
I quite like the new "Dexy's Romo Runners" direction.
My fave Wolf story: unable to amicably resolve a dispute with his former label, he shat in a tupperware tub, cycled through London with the still-warm cack in his shopping basket, then, upon arriving at the record co.'s office, carefully posted his deposit through their letterbox.
Kind of. I never really thought much of his music initially (twee ukelele ballads with drum & bass undertow not my thing!) but the recent Lycanthropy album is okay, and along these lines. Also there's a great song about Virginia Woolf on the album before that (I think).
He's probably best experienced live, to be honest - when you get bored of the music you can total up the number of girls and boys gazing at him with pure love who ostentatiously display/hide their self-harming scars.
I'd never heard of him until very recently. I'm still undecided but he's growing on me slowly, so I guess I'll check him out.
To derail a bit, I heard a session by Annuals last night. If you like Arcade Fire and similar bands, you'll be blown away by them. Give this WOXY session a listen - it's absolutely stunning.
