He sure loves that Sam Kinison story -- I just heard him tell it the other day in another interview.

Ron Jeremy isn't iconic to me, because I'm not a porndog at all (and actually have some issues with it, personally), but I think he shows up really well in that interview. Though the wreck story made me wince and roll my eyes, which is really hard to do at the same time, believe me.

Ron Jeremy is one of those guys who manages to make porn look not fun, to me, most of the time. And he's gratingly self-promotional all the time. But, he works it like he invented it, and out of no great talent, has made himself a celebrity, by the grittiest route. In America, he's one apex example for the 21st century of the self-made man. And next to media whores like Donald Trump, he looks positively statesmanlike, even in his infomercials. Interesting interview, particularly his take on XXX Church and Tammy Faye. Only in America! What a country!

Well, basically he's an icon because he's a homely guy with a big schlong who gets paid to have sex with beautiful women, giving hope to men everywhere. Somebody's gotta live the dream.

(so, also, I guess... a lot of my take on this may have as much to do with not being up to date on current U.S. media/popular culture as it does with not being well grounded in porn.)

Ron is no longer a Flickr contact of mine. I got tired of checking out the 'latest photos from your contacts' to see, at best, lots of big bazoomed women in bikinis posing by a pool or sometimes much, much worse.
