Let's forget yesterday. Anybody up for another emcee squared? →[More:]
taz has dibs on a corner whenever she gets set up in Athens. The quilt idea is being shelved for now.
Hey, hey, hey, I was just going to post about this. If you do another one, it should be a torus, not a square! What I mean is that the edges of the square should "wrap around", so that every tile is shares edges with 4 other tiles. This is more symmetric, and then you can take the whole square and tile it to make wallpaper or repeating patterns with no discontinuities.
I can post a pic explanation if need be, but do you get what I'm saying? Anyone agree that it would be cool?
Yes, a pic would help. Definately sounds like it would be cool, but we've actually only done one round (of two) of the squared idea, so another go at something everybody understands might be good.
Wolfdog, I understand the torus. It's a great idea. The only bad thing is that it means a little bit slower play than the emcee squared, which is no big deal, since the exquisite corpses are slower, too, and I still want to do those. We should do a torus next - or one can be organized at the same time as this one, if you'll take it on. I can't organize for about 10 days or so, as I'm going to be pretty busy, but if you do set one up, I can do a square.
I'm not sure how you organize the square, but a torus can be done in three stages. The first three folks can each work simultaneously on a square with no constraints. The second batch of three can work simultaneously; each of them will have two edges against squares from the first stage and two edges free. The third batch can all work simultaneously, and they have the difficult task of interpolating a square that has all four edges against existing squares.
I'll make a little diagram, just not right at the moment.
Not sure we'll get enough participants for two squares, agro. MS Paint is fine, and the team 2 result proves the talent thing was just people being modest.
I'm (hopefully) sitting out this square, but would like to do the torus when it happens.
The idea is that the only the nine central tiles in my figure get drawn, but the whole resulting 3x3 square should be usable as a tile (that's what the extra faint copies are - just duplicates of the central 3x3). So the top edge has to meet the bottom edge nicely; likewise, left and right.
Stage 1: Three people working independently contribute 3 unconstrained tiles (blue).
Stage 2: Three people working independently contribute 3 tiles (yellow) - each of which has to have its lower and right edges match existing blue tiles, which they'd be given.
Stage 3: The last three people can work independently to contribute tiles marked green - but, like I said, every green tile has all four of its edges against existing tiles, so they're the biggest challenge. Also, possibly, the most fun.
If I understood correctly the process by which the squares are done, this doesn't take any longer, and I think I could coordinate such a beast. Long as I don't have to draw anything.
the team 2 result proves the talent thing was just people being modest.
Welllll, I don't think that's true. If you took one of the squares from Team 2 and put it in an emcee like Team 1's, it would look really out of place.
--taz in a corner
--fork in the middle
--arse, ico, dodgy, Shane, appidydafoo, CitrusFreak unplaced.
--one spot open
I probably won't put Shane or iconomy in a corner since they did one last time, unless they ask nicely (or meanly). Any requests for a particular hole from anyone?
Yay, youngergirl. Last spot! So here's a possibility:

Removing iconomy and Shane from the corners, leaves some less emcee-experienced folks with the double transition task. Pipe up if you're unconfortable with your spot.
pups, team 2 is signing up over here - we're using Wolfdog's funny scheme. I don't think Paint is really required, but any trace of lassoing, vectors, or other fancy schmancy photoshop/illustrator skillz with be admired, but will ultimately make the rest of us me feel jealous.
