I feel for the n00b. I haven't gotten the Internet since Gopher died. Hypertext sucks, and hyperlinks make you weak minded. Look what they've done to me.

I had a tiring series of emails with a guy who claimed that because I posted photos on my blog, I was giving up ownership:

"It's within the public domain, if you want things private then I suggest you put them on a private server with log in."

Then he proceeded to show me that I was the real thief, for taking the photos in the first place.

"Where you get the double standard right to take other people's works (the hokos, crafts, etc...), copy them through photographic means, and then claim rights to it?"

It's hard to believe that there are people that stupid out there. How do they remember to breathe? It's not just that they don't get the internet, they don't get life in general.

Guy in the post ought to encourage the emailer to go to a lawyer. I can hear the laughing from here, after they give him a bill.

Back in the old days, if you did something to upset someone they'd say that you were a bad person and that you were going to hell.

People still do that in the backwaters. A while back I went to a protest at a dog auction in farm country that was populated by religious right Christians and Amish. All the puppies were from puppy mills, mostly Amish ones, and many were sickly or dirty with waste, having been raised with no care in tiny cages stacked on top of each other so they peed and pooed on each other like chickens in battery cages.

A couple of kids drove past us in a van and said WE were going to hell.

I saw this a couple of weeks ago and broke out laughing. I work in tech support so I'm kind of hardened to the clueless but the guy's sense of entitlement was hilarious.

Yeah, the lawyer bit is a little hilarious!

Today I got a request from someone (in TV, oooh) to use one of the pics from my tiny animlas set, despite the fact that I state clearly on the front page of the set that I didn't take any of the photographs, and despite the fact that, on this particular image, I had given a link to the original photographer's site.

What a maroon!

Man, I'm really tempted to extract the email address by applying those "blurred text decoding" skills I picked up from Boing Boing the other day.

But I don't currently have Photoshop installed, and I can think of better things to do with my time, like going outside and enjoying a cup of coffee in the brief sun patches and glittering snow.

However, if the admin in question was a true BOFH, he/she would have noticed the hotlinking in their logs, upon which they would have discovered said small businessman's website, upon which they would have changed the images to stuff like tubgirl, goatse and lemon party.

Which, hopefully, would cause Mr. Clueless to call his lawyers first instead of writing that pointless little email.

This is what modern medicine has done for us - made us weak. In the old days, people that stupid simply didn't have the wherewithal to survive - now they not only survive, but are breeding. Never mind global warming - this is what will doom the human race in the end.
