Anyone see Children of Men yet? (spoiler warning)[More:]I just saw it and was very impressed. I'm sure dobbs will come along and call me a half-retard for thinking so, but it'd get my vote for Best Picture if the Academy cared to count mine.

I realize I didn't actually spoil the movie yet, but I figured someone else may come along and do so.
I'm not reading the spoiler but rather just typing without looking at the rest of the post.

But I just had to say, I'm going to see it tonight. I shall return.

I read the book.

I want to see it. The raves have been enthusiastic and nearly universal.

I liked it a lot. I'd like to see it again.

I've watched it twice. It's very, very good, although I find the "world will fall to shit without babies" premise pretty absurd. But, hey, a dystopian future is a dystopian future so I won't be picky.

I didn't have a problem with the "world will fall to shit without babies" premise, as many of the shitty things going on in the movie are outgrowths of current trends. Also consider how much of our politics gets done around "think of the children", and I could certainly see environmentalism taking a dive.

The movie was ok, although I found it a bit manipulative in points and obvious in others. In particular the roving battle scene went on too long and kind of forgot what it's point was after a bit.

I saw it last night and liked it. It was a bit heavy-handed at times, but overall very good. Michael Cain was sooo good in it. And Clive Owen looked dreamy.

Love and own the book, so will probably hate the movie.

Hadn't heard of it but it looks good.

I don't get how anyone could like this film. It makes no attempt to make any sense, the plotting is incredibly lazy and the characters are all wanked off one-dimensional idiots. Oh and Clive Owen is apparently impenetrable to bullets.

I loved the movie, just got back. I love dystopia though. What can I say? I'm twisted like that.

I agree that it was overbearing and manipulative at parts, but then again, it worked. Moments were heart-wrenching. I'll probably end up writing a looong blog post about it in the next few days to go over the parts I had the biggest problems with. But in general, as a film, an experience, I enjoyed it thoroughly. Michael Caine was awesome.

Except for the one that probably killed him in the end.

Yeah but he bumbled through the middle of a gun battle for about 20 minutes before that. The way he (the actor, not the character) didn't actually try to get behind the things he was meant to be sheltering behind was just insulting.

I saw it in Cork a few months ago--and thought the midwife was Judi Dench.

I really liked it, but I like all of Alfonso Cuaron's movies in general.

The two action sequences that seemed as if they were done in a single take were amazing, especially since the default method of editing action movies these days is lots and lots and lots of quick cuts, without bothering to establish spaces or the locations of people within those spaces. (That said, there must have been some digital trickery to get that effect, since at one point blood spatters onto the camera, which disappears at some point in the same shot.)

The way that Cuaron used the edges of the frame and tiny background details to do most of the worldbuilding work reminded me of Y Tu Mama Tambien--the lingering grad student in me wants to think of the two movies as companions to each other in some way, but the corporate drone in me has work to do.

The shoutout to Pink Floyd's Animals was appreciated, though unnecessary.

I saw it tonight and liked it. What had me wondering were the dogs and birds. Humans aren't able to reproduce, but dogs and birds are? Doesn't seem likely.

I was at the edge of my seat for most of the movie.

Kirstie Alley or Fergie? || have I mentioned that I'm really sick of weather?
