I'd like some Christmas tripe with my Christmas trifle... I want write a Christmas-themed essay for my book review blog, and I'm trying to come up with some materials to review. It might be fun, for instance, to gather together a selection of Christmas tripe such as Santa's Christmas Prayer (link not safe for those who have any literary sensibilities and have just eaten) and go to town on it. Or to write something on Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol. Which Christmas novels/stories/poems do you love and loathe? I don't review movies, so text only please...
Well, there's The Christmas Box and its loathesome derivatives. I kind of liked this take on it.

This always struck me as a clunky section in an otherwise superb work.

Burroughs's "The Junkie's Christmas" would be worth a look. Sorry, but Google jsut throws up results for the claymation short (which was great, but not the actual short story).

It was Christmas Eve babe
In the drunk tank

An old man said to me, won't see another one
And then he sang a song
The Rare Old Mountain Dew
I turned my face away
And dreamed about you
