28 November 2006

I put some money towards it when the idea was first mooted. So I think I have, but I don't actually know. Meh, I'll see if anything turns up in the post.

Ha! TheDonF, I'll try and figure out what your status is. Unless you remember specifically making a round-number donation, you probably ordered a CD. Which is good news:

The vast majority of early funding came in the form of single orders, of which all US (domestic) pre-orders are in the mail as of Right This Minute. I'm shipping the int'l pre-orders (about 30 or so) this afternoon after work, and then tomorrow I'll mail everything that has come in since then, if the volume doesn't exceed my reasonable capacity to do so: orders have started trickling in ever since Matt posted the meficomp ad on the blue.

Update for TheDonF—you're among the int'l pre-orders, so yours will be hitting the post office this afternoon. :)

Yay! Thanks cortex :)

Yeah, I bought from the banner. The artist profile art is schweet.

And cortex, everything you do is awesome and I wanted to take specific time out to make it known that it is appreciated.
posted by sciurus 28 November | 11:07
I also bought mine months ago.
posted by matildaben 28 November | 11:28
Can I still buy it, cortex? Have I missed my chance?? Noooo!
posted by muddgirl 28 November | 11:33
I can't believe cortex actually has a "butts lol" t-shirt. That's awesome.
posted by mullacc 28 November | 11:41
For muddgirl and others who want to order a copy, check the MeFi Comp website. Here is the link to the order page.

cortex: Will you also be able to post this to Projects?
posted by terrapin 28 November | 12:06
Orders are totally open. We've still got another 800 or so of these things to sell.

terrapin: I would feel a little silly posting it to Projects, what with the big ad on the front page of Mefi. It'd be like jumping off the parade route to go yell at the clerk of a nearby coffee joint, neh?

Not that the idea hasn't occurred to me. I'm just not sure it wouldn't be a little weird.

sciurus: aw heck. Thanks, man.

I want to hear it immediately and I don't want to pay for it. Anyone want to burn it and post it to Mecha via YouSendIt.

"What's that you say... Copyright... Unfair..."

Dude. If I like it, I'll totally buy it later.

Heh. Pragmatically, much of the album can be located freely online with some elbow grease—most of the artists have websites, and most of those are linked from the artist page on the site.

As are the samples of every single track, baby.

I don't look at the front page. I, like others I assume, read the site via RSS and then click through to threads (and projects) that are interesting. If I didn't read the MeFi Comp site (via RSS) or this thread here (again, via RSS) I wouldn't have known about the ad on The Blue.

I don't think there is anything wrong with posting this to Projects. I have noticed that often when the MeFiComp CD is mentioned there are still plenty of people who have either not heard of it, not remembered it, or need more information. Can't hurt to help move those extra 800 CDs.

Having already heard the awesome music, I can't wait to see and feel the thing in my flippers :)

Thanks for managing this!

Alternately, I guess interrobang (or turtlegirl) could post it to Projects. Or any of the artists for that matter. Although, turtlegirl isn't likely to do it, so hopefully you or someone else will :)

People who only read mefi via RSS remind me of people who only watch TV with a Tivo/DVR. If you can't be bothered to watch a TV show within a few days of its original airing, don't complain when you hear spoilers. If you can't be bothered to read a website in its intended format, don't complain that you didn't see shit via RSS.

Don't mean to pick on you, terrapin...I just see red whenever I hear about RSS .
posted by mullacc 28 November | 12:29
Heh. RSS kills!

terrapin, I've dropped Matt a line to get his take on it.
posted by cortex 28 November | 12:31
LOL, mullacc. I guess it all is a matter of WHY one uses those tools. I rarely watch TV*, but I use DVR for 2 reasons. 1) I HATE commercials and 2) It came with our satellite TV. I could care less about spoilers. But I am glad it is around because I don't pay attention to TV enough to know when the few shows I do watch are on.

Similarly, RSS is a better alternative to me than constantly refreshing web pages in a hundred different of tabs.

*shrug* Your mileage may vary, obviously.

* The only things I record are My Name is Earl and Eureka. Oh, and movies that are on at 3 am. But I guess I should get over myself and just stay up late to watch those rather than sleeping, which is for the weak! ;)
posted by terrapin 28 November | 12:51
Aaand, Matt says sure. Expect a project post in the next 1-72 hours.
posted by cortex 28 November | 12:58
I'll start refreshing the Projects page now so I don't miss it ;)

Thanks cortex!

Hmph. I just tried to order one and ran into a problem. I'm in Canada but I want to ship it to the U.S. and it won't let me (it shows only the Canadian address format). I'm trying to skip out on the higher shipping fees by sending it to my mum in Everett. Does anyone know of a way around this?
posted by deborah 28 November | 13:50
Have your mum order it? Send me an email explaining the situation and mail me a check? Either of these are okay with me.
posted by cortex 28 November | 14:01
I pre-ordered ages ago. I was also an early bird hassler.
posted by krix 28 November | 14:04
And god bless you hasslers. It's a good way to get things done.
posted by cortex 28 November | 14:06
The project is up now.
posted by interrobang 28 November | 14:07
Thanks for the input, cortex. I'll have mum order it for me.
posted by deborah 28 November | 14:22
So, is someone gonna front-page the thing, or what? It's time for some crass commercialism!
posted by interrobang 28 November | 15:16
If you can't be bothered to read a website in its intended format, don't complain that you didn't see shit via RSS.

Since metafilter has an rss feed that matt chose to create, rss is in fact an intended format. It's just a different format. And when you're checking 500 sites, a much better format.

Interrobang: I was thinking about posting it to The Blue, but 1) I just posted today and 2) my wife's involvement made me feel like it was a self-link.

Anyone else want to click the "post to mefi" yellow button?

word up, justgary!
