What's going on with Iron Man (Marvel Geeks Unite)? so the last modern Iron Man I read was Iron Man Volume 4 #1 so I have no idea what's going on with Civil War except that Tony Stark is now a giant prick. Can anyone give me a rundown on what's currently going on with shellhead?
I don't know much about the recent adventures of Tony Stark, Stynxo, but I do know that a film slated for a 2008 release will star Robert Downey, Jr. as Iron Man and Terrence Howard (Hustle & Flow) as Jim Rhodes/War Machine.
John Favreau (Elf director) is directing.

Does it sound appealing to you at all though?

the movie seems good. i like john favreau (he did swingers and made) and downey, jr will be able to cover the whole alcoholism problem that tony has. so...i have high hopes on the film.

I hear ya, man. Favreau is a favorite of mine as well and that's dating all the way back to that bit part he had in "Rudy".
So, I'll definitely throw list on my list of must sees since you approve.

From what I can tell, Tony Stark is trying to make peace with his careless past in the worst way possible. So he is honoring an agreement made years ago with a handful of other heroes that met in secret. Among these were Reed Richards, Dr Strange, Black Bolt, Namor and a couple others. The problem to be solved is just what they would do if superheroism developed into a global threat. Out of that group, it looks like only Reed agreed.

That time, it seems, arrived with an incident involving a team of young heroes led by Speedball that ended with massive civilian casualties.

So Stark and Richards have been the spearheads of a movement to register all superheroes, therefore making them instruments under the watch and direction of the US government. Naturally, there has been resistance. The resisters have taken up with Captain America.

Thus Civil War.

Add into this mess the fact that Stark has some major father figure issues and the other fact that he took a recovering Peter Parker (Spider-Man) under his wing last year to an almost adoptive degree, you have a man who might not be the best to head up a very over-protective (and over-proactive) superhero equivalent of the PATRIOT act.

The question now is just how long Stark will go on before he cracks. He's a recovering alcoholic still, so that shadow is a threat. Dialogue in private has shown him approaching self-doubt about the whole matter. And with the recent death of Goliath at the hands (hammer) of a barely-controlled clone of Thor, it seems that Peter Parker will soon be leaving Stark's side and protection.

Long story short, Stark is a prick, but his imminent implosion is going to be pretty spectacular methinks.
