People fight in Metachat. If I'm not involved, I ignore it. Why? Because this isn't high school. sbutler and mudpuppie and anyone else who cares should work it out in-thread or in email. They're not dragging it all over the site, and that's a good thing.
mcgraw, you do realize that you just described Planet Earth, right? What makes you think any other community site would be any different from what exists outside? Email the admins about your issues and fight it out in that thread. Or pull a dhoyt with some son_of_minya and take this flameout to the next level.

no, it's fine to have that view. But starting new threads to pinpoint the fact that you are unhappy about something is fairly LOL. if you want to do that, start a livejournal.
mcgraw, what about when sbutler told me to "settle down"? You didn't stick up for me then, and I thought that was an incredibly rude thing for him to say to me. Made me pretty goddamn angry, if you want to know the truth.
When you called out mudpuppie for telling sbutler she was more qualified to discuss the matter than he, you were rude.
Anyway, I don't think there was the level of mistreatment going on to warrant your reaction. I really don't think there was a ganging-up-on sbutler.
And I think it's unrealistic to expect the site administrators to supervise every discussion, and tell any upset people to uh, settle down. If sbutler was truly upset by mudpuppie's comment, he can hash it out with her on his own.
And he is a he, by the way: sbutler's profile says his name is Stephen Butler.
There's certainly no problem with people ganging up to ridicule others here.
I've never seen that here. Ever. I've seen people express a minority opinion and be outnumbered by those who disagree, but that is not the same as "ganging up."
I've also seen people argue rabidly in one thread while at the same time bantering warm-heartedly in another. I like that. A lot.

There are no favourites. There is no secret cabal. There is no concerted effort to gang up on anyone.
Also, if you've got a problem, email an administrator. Don't vent all over the front page.
If someone makes a post which should have been emailed to an administrator, then IGNORE that post.
I've just missed two episodes of the Simpsons because of this little stunt. So thankfully, some good came of it and I'm not that angry.
