dr who confidential→[More:]
So these "Dr Who Confidential" thingies I am seeing on usenet. What are they? Are they worth bothering with?
I am getting ready to watch the first two eps of Torchwood, I hope it is good. Yes.
Torchwood is interesting. Lots of potential, and with any luck it'll be darker than Dr Who and (I hope) will have story lines that run further than just one or two episodes. The first was a good set-up (I was suprised at the swearing in it, but that may point towards more mature themes), I hope it won't be too gadget-heavy, and I can't wait for #2.
The Dr Who Confidential things, which are transmitted directly following the episode per se, are interviews, behind-the-scenes footage, and so forth, and supposedly slightly bigger previews of the week after. I'm a huge fan of the show but I find them unnecessary. YMMV.
Torchwood is transmitted at a later hour than Dr Who, which is explicitly kid-friendly, and it's definitely supposed to be a bit darker and more mature.
Just watched the first two episodes of Torchwood, and it was pretty damn good. It does have the fingerprints of Russell T. Davies all over it, but in a very good way, so far.
Some of those new Dr.Who episodes are terrible! The dalek shoots at the cieling and is hit by a beam of sun light.
Rose: "I never thought I'd feel the sun light again"
Dalek: "How does it feel" (remember, this is in Dalek voice!)
The dalek opens up, exposing its biology to the light and raises a tentacle at Rose.
...
Dalek: "I can feel so many ideas... So much darkness... Rose, give me orders. Order me to die"
As for Dr. Who Confidential. I only watched the Sarah Jane / K-9 episode. It was fine, hearing from Elisabeth Sladen and all that, but it didn't inspire me to go looking for more.
So, I've finally made a MetaChat post (err. comment, whatever). I may have to make a new account though - it is supposed to be a capital C. Woo-hoo, sock puppets!
Huh. I think they're pretty good. I especially liked the episode you quote from. I didn't like the second season as much as the first, partly because I don't like 11 as much as 10. But I did like it.
Anyway, just watched the first two Torchwood episodes and I really enjoyed them. I love the mature themes and all the hoyay. God, I wish the US would enter the 21st century already. It looks like fun.
Well, Chuckles, if you didn't like "Dalek" -- which I submit is the very best of the RTD era, and a contender for "best Who EVAR" -- I guess there's not much there for you.
It's definitely not one for purists and I know a few were cheesed off by it. But -- and I don't make this comparison lightly -- just as Seven of Nine was an excellent character because she was used to challenge Federation orthodoxy, "Dalek" is all about looking anew at the Dalek "character", as well as what fighting a cataclysmic war with them did to even the Doctor.
I loved the Ninth Doctor a lot -- what an unpredictable, nearly-unhinged fellow he was. Eccleston should have done two years. But I have great affection for the Tenth as well. Tennant has a real grasp for the essentials of the character, dramatically, whimsically, philosophically.
Baker is still the best. Just like Connery will always be Bond.
