I met Weird Al at Laguardia when I was 13. He was really nice and friendly. And it's great that he's around to deflate pop stardom (and his is the best kind of affectionate satire).

God bless Al Yankovic. I saw him once live at the county fair, and it struck me as a weirdly ridiculous and dark spectacle—there he was, on stage in front of a bunch of 8-to-12-year-olds (and their parents, and 20-year-old me and a buddy grinning like loons) and he just full on beat the crap out of Santa Claus as part of a routine. Wonderful.

Howie Mandel is so so so irritating. Al OTOH, is a minor deity.

Heard him interviewed once, he talked about how someone or other big artist gave him permisssion to do the parody version, then freaked out and tried to stop him, not because of the parody but because his production was better than theirs.

I don't doubt it, his productions are really done well.
