A black family has moved into my neighborhood What's the best way to greet them?→[More:]
Just so everyone's clear, I'm not actually asking for advice, and no one's actually moved in to my neighborhood. I'm making fun of Senator George Allen.
(i knew that ortho - i just think that's the best Miss Manners quote ever - I think it was actually in response to the question "What do I say when I am introduced to a gay couple?")
he's a Californian who role plays the worst Southern stereotypes
and that's, to my non-USian eyes, the strangest part. that's why I img src'd a shot from The Believer in a Allen thread on MeFi -- I mean, a suburban Californian Jew who does everything he can to morph into a KKK cracker? come on, it's a fucking (sad) joke
One of my favorite lines was from this loser movie called Mother, Jugs, and Speed. A white bigot had finally seen the light and was hosting a few black folks. He goes, "what do you people take in your coffee?"
If I am comfortable enough around someone, I'll trot that one out.
