Trish, the younger generations are way into this stuff! One of the more interesting discoveries on my con research outing was the overwhelming popularity of yaoi (that's Japanese for boy/boy romance, for the rest of you bunnies) and slash dojinshi (fan produced slashfic) among teenagers. There's a whole shitload of kids from Portland putting together a roadtrip to Yaoicon!
pi: I know all about slash; I think I even wrote some at one point about Ukyo Kuonji and a female friend from her hometown. But I also recognize that a) not every bunny here is the same kind of perv I am and b) not every bunny here is as deep into Internet fandom as I am.
If there are folks who are even deeper into 'net fandom than I am... well, I salute you!
(*saluting TrishaLynn back, and pi too*) Fellow pervy internet-fandom denizen reporting in. A good friend of mine made that vid, actually, and while she was unthrilled that it got youtube'd, she was more bothered that the audio and video are a bit out of sync.
There are plenty of really excellent fan vids out there, slashy and non-, but most of the brighter vidders try to keep them at least somewhat under cover, because drawing the attention of the RIAA is not something any of us want. (Me, I just write fanfic, which makes for a much lower-level target.)
Hmm, that's interesting katallison - I took a class awhile back - basically an anthropology of online interactions course. Whenever Youtube (etc) came up, I was pretty much the only one who thought it wasn't the next great thing. Because, I mean, there are a lot of implications for ownership and the value of human work. All the little college stoners laughed at me, of course.
(Note that I, too, am obsessed with YouTube, because some people post stuff like this, via AskMeta, but it also has the potential for great evil when it comes to content that is uploaded indiscriminately) Ok, this is probably inappropriate for this thread - just something I've been thinking about recently.
