Let me see, that's actually tough: this month I've got a shirt via essexjan, seeds from pup, and pr0n comics from trishalynn. More bunnies! I want to buy the world a bunny!
MetaChat is an informal place for MeFites to touch base and post, discuss and chatter about topics sometimes weeks before they show up at MetaFilter. ;)
I hope that even though I am not a "mefite" - whatever that is - since my writing and thought have a large effect on US policy, that is to say, my thoughts on American hegemony have a profound impact on all of you, I hope to be welcome here.
Being a major magazine publisher and commentator is tiring, and this place looks great for kicking back!!
My intent, Getoffmylawn, was to make a humorous statement about the subject matter in the internet linked short film. I hope sincerely that no offense was taken.
I am aware that I have somewhat of a negative reputation, but recent personal issues - that I hope to talk about somewhat here once I'm properly familiarized with all of you!! - have made me realize that I need to "lighten up", so here I am.
I'd really rather keep politics off this internet, Amberglow. I'm trying to cut loose here!! After what's been happening to me recently, that is, certain things that have to change, I'd rather not talk about that kind of thing.
I counted 44 caterpillars on my butterfly weed plants today before I lost my place and gave up.
I planted more butterfly weed this year (including some of the pink asclepias incarnata (swamp milkweed) which I will have to keep well watered) so next year I will have even more baby monarchs. Yaaaaay. I have been researching other host plants too, so I can order some this fall and try to get more types of caterpillars. I have some plants that are supposedly hosts, but either the butterflies do not find them or the right ones have not visited because they are always empty. Or the caterpillars are just few in number/get eaten by birds before I find them. The monarch caterpillars do have the anti-bird advantage since they eat a poisionous plant and most things do not want to eat them.
No but it is a little known fact that if you go outside shortly after midnight with a flourescent lightsource (other light will make them hide), you can see monarchs sitting on the leaves blowing little smoke rings like Gandalf pondering which path to take in the depths of Moria.
That, my dear, goml, is something you'd need a TV to know about.
Astounding. I can't take a moral argument seriously from any of you who jumped at the opportunity to take advantage of an honest mistake. I don't want to hear ever again about greedy corporations or crooked politicians. You people just showed that you're willing to turn a blind eye when it is to your benefit. How does that make you any different from those you rail against?
No, no. You are quite right to go with the classic, taz. I'm glad you did. But sadly, the education of the youth of amerika is declining in more than one way.
