27 July 2006

I just wrote a spec entitled "screw with decorative cap."
"You can leave your hat on..."

Is it worth running to your Flickr page?

Guess how this journal is cited in reference lists. Go ahead. Guess.

Better than "cap with decorative screw."

That took me longer than it should have to get.

Here at Mordor's Hooks and Blue Sick, Inc. we use four letter codes to designate different discount schedules for different vendors.

Trade items from a fairly prominent publisher are coded as FART.

Ikea makes a chair called Fartful. Also, a desk called Jerker.

Use with "Self-locking Nut with Lubricant"
Is this decorative enough?

Working in maritime history can keep one very entertained. Among the many appellations for shipboard equipment are the "snatch-block" and the "cunt-splice," bowdlerized in most printed sources as "cut splice".

Even more noteworthy: it's not a funny coincidence that they're called by those names. They're named directly after the parts referred to. A fine illustration of the occupational culture of the mariner in the Age of Sail.

There's also a sail called the "Spanker", located at the back end of the boat for some extra pushing power.

Wolfdog: From my experience typing references for scientific papers, I'd guess J Func Anal?

Miko: I could use some extra pushing power on my back end.
