Queens in the Stone Age Frustration mounts as I go for a fifth day without electricity or hot water. I really just want some hot water.
Y'all (you and your peoples) are welcome to come to my new apartment and shower, captaintripps, either tonight or tomorrow afternoon. The ceiling is low (not even 6 feet), but I get good water pressure.
Our power went out on Monday and we're right next to that eight block section of cable that came down the other day. It actually came up for about twenty minutes this morning and then shut off.
I actually might take you up on that offer Kate. This longhair doesn't do so well if he don't keep it washed!
I should start a spa at my apartment! And make big dollars.
PRICE LIST
Refreshing Spa Shower- $25 for 10 minutes, $5 each additional minute
Access to Magical Water That Springs Forth From My Sink- $10 for 5 minutes, $5 each additional minute
::imagines lines out the door, everyone in bathrobes and slippers::
By the way, I was just informed by my friend who works at the C-Town on 28th Ave. and 41st that the store is now out of business due to the money it lost over the course of the blackout.
Yup. It's my grocery store, too. My friend says they couldn't afford to get a generator like Key Food did, their produce and meat was spoiled and they had no income for the entire week, so now the store's closed and she's out of a job.
I generally prefer C-Town because I find the staff to be very personable and I've made a couple of friends there. It's also relatively closer.
Key Food has the best produce of the three, cold beer and better meat than C-Town. The staff's not rude, but they're not friendly, either.
Trade Fair has the best meat out of all three, but their beer ain't cold and with the exception of the cute checkout girl who has a crush on me, I've always been treated rudely there.
As it turns out, on the issue of C-Town closing, I misinterpreted what my friend was saying. She will no longer be working there, though why I'm not sure.
No sarcasm intended here, can you get a pot or big bottle of water and set it out in the sun for several hours, like Sun Tea, without the tea? Then you could at least wash your face and stuff?
getoffmylawn: I've had no trouble washing "and stuff," but with the amount of hair on my head, a full-immersion in icy water, while possibly proving me a real man, just isn't something I'm desperate to do yet. Why, with all the heat, the water is ICY is beyond me.
We still have power here (*knocks wood*), and we managed to find an open supermarket waaay the hell down Ditmars where we shopped in the dark and stocked up on beer, canned good, chips, cake frosting, cigarettes and other necessities. It was a vaguely eastern block type of scene. I saw some visibly downed power lines along the way, too.
Yeah, I actually got home and most of the power was on. Very nice hot shower. The rest of the power came on a few minutes ago.
Spoke to ThePinkSuperhero about an hour ago to thank her for the invite and it turns out I may be returning the offer as she now doesn't have power herself!
No, I don't have power. I have less power than ever (I've been shocked to find there are more degrees to having power than Having It and Not Having It). Luckily I have lots of candles and several new boxes of matches!
Yeah, I feel REALLY bad for the rest of the neighbourhood without power. Makes me feel bad that I'm now one of the haves.
Funny thing: There's a well-known conservative pundit cum blogger intimating today that this may have something to do with terrorism. Geez, folks, let's keep with the fear!
As for 3 p.m., when I was last at my place, no power. It was flickering on and off all day. I finally threw out all my food- even the block of good cheese I just bought. I had a delicious turkey sandwich courtesy of the Red Cross for lunch. I nearly cried seeing them in my neighborhood- this is where I live! It's not supposed to look like some refugee camp. :-(
