Bunnystock Updated!! Look! Actual motel phone numbers and links of interest! Also, activities! Also, Tom Waits! →[More:]Okay, y'all, we're three weeks out and we are definitely ON. It's time to finalize those plans! Do you think I should put this up on MeTa too or are we gonna be bunnies only? I just found out about Tom Waits, that means that a bunch opf my other out of town friends are going to be partying right along with us, looks like. ;-)

Google Maps sends you through Richmond, dano - or were you planning to go the more westerly route? If you come through Richmond, hit us up for a ride.

The westerly route from Baltimore/DC is the way to go. Roughly 8, 8.5 hours from downtown Balto. West to 81, then 81 all the way down to Johnson City TN, take 26 straight into Asheville. It says "future 26" but it lies; it's actually all finished and a gorgeous trip to boot.

I was planning on going out I-66 to 81, rather than down 95 . . . but if there is space, it wouldn't be much of a detour. Thanks for the offer. What time are you leaving (Friday I assume). I'll email YCCMA.

Thank you for the update mgl, and moonbird over the weekend.

Hotel dwellers - I'm looking at Best Western Biltmore (downtown) and Best Western Tunnel Road. . .they still have availability. . .I'm not looking for a roomie (that's one reason I want a hotel!) But if a few bunnies were in the same spot it might facilitate transportation. What hotels are on your lists?

Yeah, dano, al, I have ample parking, also close to the Amtrak station, so if you can't work anything out on the Western Front, join up in Richmond if you like.

rainbaby and I are working that out, and I've yet to check my gmail today because it's blocked at work. Let me know via email if you and/or Al decide to come through Richmond and we'll see if we can't work out logistics.

Warbaby mentioned the Thunder Road motel, that was featured in a movie called Thunder Road. Is that not on the list because it doesn't exist, because it sucks, or because it just didn't occur to you.

I was planning on going down Friday...I can come back whenever, I just need to know ASAP so that I can plan accordingly with the dog-sitter.

(man, i am actually really tempted to come down early and see tom waits. gah...)

I've given this a lot of thought and sadly, I think I'm going to have to back out. My cat is sick and getting sicker (cancer), and although she's lived far longer than I thought she would, she's probably on her last legs at this point. She needs medication every day and I just can't justify putting her in a kennel (which she would hate) at this point in her life. I don't know, maybe I'm a crazy cat lady, but I would feel so guilty leaving her right now. I'm bummed though; you guys are going to have so much fun.

So, looks like one of mgl's bedrooms is available again!

Sorry Miko, I obviously won't be available to carpool now. But aren't there a few people from NY going?

Amro, I would have done the same. I had not one but two chronically ill cats who were sick for a couple of years before they passed away, and the situation curtailed lots of travel during those years.

Does actually exist, just north of town... it's now called "The Pines," and they advertise free wifi.
