I'm not too good at Grow games, but I did manage to complete this one (I've also managed to complete the Grow RPG, but I had some help from my sister, so it doesn't really count). But if you liked it, then I'd also recommend Chronon. It's a bit like Grow, except completely different (and very difficult).

I love the little yellow men who stomp on things and make things Grow!

I'm getting slightly better at these, but they still take me way too long to solve. My strategy: first identify the items that obviously have a lot of steps (the shop/village in Grow RPG), and those that have very few steps (the treasure chest in the same one). The long ones are your first drops, the short ones can usually wait until the end. For the middle steps, start looking for interrelations (the mountain, sun, and pipe in the original Grow) to get an idea of the sequence for the middle steps.

That said, Chronon utterly defeated me.

I think this one was a bit easier... Or else I'm getting better at them. Probably the former.
