doggy update I posted it in the original thread, just linking it here. I just want the last week to fade to a memory.
Thank you for the update, were. Maybe the guy isn't a total jerk. But if I had a dog that attacked another of my pets, it'd be out of here. And, forgive me all, I'd probably have it put down as a dangerous animal. Poor Mister T. will be sore, but I hope he ends up okay.
Many, many hugs, were, and a cup of hot tea while I get you something to eat. (if I could)
Hang in there, weretable. The stress is hard to deal with, but it is totally justified.
And I know you don't want to start a battle, but I absolutely think that the dog's owner is responsible for at least part of your expenses. (I'd say all, but that's probably unreasonable.)
Now's not the time to think about that, of course, but you are more than entitled to approach it once you get the bill -- especially given the dog's history.
Oh, were. You poor thing. Hope it all turns around for you from this point on. And pups is right...that guy needs to pay up. You don't need financial stress on top of everything else his negligence put you through.
...And even though the thought of the financial confrontation will lead to more stress, any small claims court would rule in your favor. That seems like some comfort, anyway.
Paying your vet bill might be a cure for an otherwise short memory on your neighbor's part, and it's the right thing for him to do. He should OFFER to pay it. How can he live with himself?
Your neighbor needs to learn a good lesson for the sake of the next attacked dog, be it yours or someone else's, and for the good of his own dog, who is headed for being put down eventually.
Not to be insensitive, but I can't help but wonder what the other dog has been through. Given the right owner and circumstances he could be a good doggy. Peeps are usually the prob.
It's not unreasonable to expect the neighbors to pay the full bill at all.
We were at the vet for a kitty checkup in the waiting room with a couple whose dog had its throat bitten through by a crazy neighbor dog. The vet said it just barely missed the carotid artery, yikes! Luckily the dog had emergency surgery and was going home. While we were there, we heard the receptionist talking to the neighbors who had called to give their credit card number to pay for the bill. They knew damn well that the victim dog's owners could make a very strong case or possibly just demand that the crazy dog be put down, and so they were doing everything they could to prevent that. The victim dog's owners were still very nervous for their dog, other pets in the neighborhood and other CHILDREN, just like weretable is.
Weretable, I totally empathize with how stressed out and what a wreck you feel like right now. Is it possible you could get your mom or step-mom to go over to talk to the neighbors about the vet bill? And possibly call animal control and have one of their guys come over and give you all the information you need to file a complaint. Seems these people should be paying a fine at the LEAST. And get more info on what the laws are, so you can report them every time you see them breaking the law, every time the dog gets loose. Whatever it takes.
So sorry you have to go through this. I hope your family can help you. Or a friend or neighbor. This does affect the whole neighborhood, after all.
Weretable, I agree with others who've said that the bill needs to go to the neighbor, to emphasize his responsibility. It's just crazy for you to pay that.
And please take care of yourself now, sweetie! We can't have you getting sick on top of everything else. {{{{were&co.}}}}
I'm so sorry about this. These things never end well; the animals always bear the brunt of it and the idiot humans responsible get off scot-free. Here's hoping things improve for you and MrT, Were.
Although I definitely think you should get your neighbor to pay the vet bills, don't worry about that right now. Just take care of the basics: eating and sleeping.
