Hi. How are you? How was your weekend?[More:] It's hot here. But my praying mantises hatched this morning, and now they're all over the walls and ceiling of my office. They're so cool, so much fun to watch! Better than TV, even!.

What's up with you?
I'm sitting here eating Doritos. I slept all day yesterday, and I'm very proud of myself for not napping today. After I'm done eating chips, I need to continue to clean my room in anticipation of my sisters' arrival tomorrow night.

A Freightliner backed into my car. So yeah, this weekend sucked.

For birdherder: White Freightliner Blues.

My weekend is still going, thanks to some queen thousands of miles away having an official birthday. Hooray whoever-you-are!

Meanwhile, I had to skip out on a nice brunch with the in-laws as our 11-month-old puked her breakfast up all over herself, me and a jersey I bought yesterday and was planning to take back to swap for a smaller size. Ah, irony. It's like ray-ee-yain, on your wedding day.

Hence I am sitting at home, freshly showered, with sick kid sleeping, husband and preschooler out doin' stuff. It's awesome, actually.

mudpuppie - you're afraid of snakes yet you let praying mantises hatch in your house?!

*shudder*

My weekend has been pretty good, all things considered. I'm waiting to hear back from my boss re: possibility of layoff in exchange for staying until they find a replacement (vs. walking out and leaving him in the lurch, which I really don't want to do). Discussed it with Zack_Replica and respected family and friends, and the consensus is that this is the best way to go. Hopefully I can now go freelance! (Much sooner than I'd hoped, but I'm sick of office crap, and my ongoing health issues have made me the office scapegoat, it appears.)

Gardened, visited a friend in hospital, now have spaghetti sauce simmering on the stove and am surfing the 'net looking for nice, battery-recharging things to do while in TO. May even extend my trip or do a side-trip to Montreal.

It was a great weekend... did the local festival yesterday (linked in an earlier thread), today we had lunch with an old friend and then I napped on the couch all afternoon while listening to the rain outside. Also spent the last two evenings in IRC cutting up with LipstickThespian and company, which is always a blast.

Now if only I didn't have to be at work at 7 am every day for the next two weeks... *groan*

G'nite, y'all.

Deborah, I like pretty much any critter with legs. And I didn't really let them hatch in my house -- they were in a cage, but it wasn't sealed up so well (which I knew going in). But they're really cute! I promise!

I stayed at Specklet's last night but her mantids haven't hatched yet. It's colder where she is, I think is the difference. I had a mixed weekend. Some stuff was pretty cool, other stuff sucked royally. Life goes on.

I have heard that a praying mantis is hands-down the best way to get rid of cockroaches.

*hugs 'tilda*

Hey pup! mantises are cool. Can you get up close and take photos?

I had a pretty good weekend - talked with my mum (doesn't happen very often) did a bit of work, went for a nice long run, cleaned the apartment, lunch with Lola_G today, played bridge on Saturday. All in all, I really don't want Monday to come around.

that sucks, 'tilda :(

I'm drunk. We're halfway through Thumbsucker, but my partner got a phone call from a long time friend so I just mailed the rough draft of the presskit to my singer and I picked the Vertical picture for the standalone shot and the lookee-here-shot in the tazcrop(TM) for the interior picture. I realize that probably makes little sense. And I would explain, but well, we're off the phone! and back to the movie...oh, yes the weekend was pretty good even though I'm only 2 out of 3 on the projects I need to have finished, hence the drinks...

No really, I am going back to the movie now!

My weekend was freakin' fantastic. I spent much of it with a boy who knocks my socks off; shared many drinks with said boy and other friends; wiped out on my bike in front of a car on a busy street; got an awesome haircut; bought this book and several others at the Printer's Row book fair.

Oh yeah, and on Saturday night we went to see Chinese Stars (some ex-Arab on Radar members... incidentally AoR is the band that me and mr. g saw on our first date) at the Mercury Lounge and they were great. I was sure I saw safetyfork there, and nearly went over but then the dude turned around and it wasn't. Looked a lot like him though.

We hired a Kanga to do some work in Mum's front yard and start some prep work where we are building our new house. About 2 hours into the work, it blew a fitting on one of the hydraulic hoses - the hire company shrugged their sholders over the phone and said words to the effect of "tough titties, but we will give your money back", which doesn't replace our lost weekend. Added to that, when Her Indoors went to pick up the machine on Friday afternoon because I had to work, they sent her off with the (electric) brakes on the trailer turned up to max so every time she touched the brakes, the trailer brakes locked up solid. I couldn't diagnose the problem over the phone and the hire company was shut, so, after much abuse from other drivers and a couple of near-accidents she had to walk home with the kids. Not impressed. After all that, we ended up spending the rest of the weekend packing, which is one of my least favourite activities in the world (I once lived in a place I hated for 5 years rather than face packing and moving).

All in all, I've had better weekends, but it could have been worse.

I dropped the machine off this morning and they did give me the money back, the manager was very apologetic (much more so that the arsehole on duty on Saturday morning). They also offered us the machine for a discount this coming weekend, which is our Queen's birthday weekend, meaning we get three days for the same price.

MOM WAS RIGHT!

I did nothing. Drank too much Friday night, spent Saturday watching the most amazing movie: Primer.

Went to rehearsals tonight and launched my assbone onto hard parquet flooring from two feet in the air by accident in a scene, and now am sitting here spinning music on Mecha and feeling my LT-ass swell up.

Praying Mantises in your house is completely SQUICK.

I have spoken.

Me3dia! congratulations! Wow!

Also, gaspode, it was totally one of my doppelgangers because I would've seen the Chinese Stars if I could. AoR was a great band imo.

I was so squicked out about the mantises that I missed Me3dia's news.

OK, wait, I'm ignorant here. Is me3dia the bride or the groom?

Congrats to me3dia on his marriage & to mudpuppie on her mantids and, well, to everyone else for something or other!!!

Me? I didn't do much and it was lovely. Last night I went out for a couple of beers with some old friends and discussed politics, the current war on women, other old friends and their baffling romantic lives, facial piercings and how they squick us out and whether that means we're old, where to buy cheap but nice used clothes and whether or not men will steal pink lighters. It was great.
