Status Update [More:]
1. Car Problems: The guy who hit me was quibbling about the first bodywork estimate I sent him (I think he thought he could jerk me around because I'm female), so I got another estimate, which turned out to be $250 higher. He agreed to pay the lower amount, which is fine with me because I just want to get this over with. However, the right rear part of my car has been making this noise upon braking that developed after the accident. It's probably totally nothing, but I'm going to get it checked out anyway, and if it's related to the accident, I'm going to make him pay me for that as well.

2. Cat Surgery. I didn't post about this, but I told a few people one-on-one. Rupert, the woolsucker, had to have surgery for a foreign body in his intestine, which turned out to be a piece of rubber from a Puppy Kong he chewed up over a month ago. He was in a pretty bad way, but $3,000 later, he's on the mend, eating food without incident, and starting to get his mojo back, and will probably be destroying everything in sight in no time. I'm a bit freaked out about what the cost is doing to my finances, but you've gotta do what you've gotta do.
$3,000 for surgery? Wow. That's more than what it cost to amputate Haida's leg, including a few nights in intensive care.

Glad to hear he's all right.

Cat Surgery would be a great name for a band. I'm just saying.

Man, Portland is expensive. Similar surgery for our girl a couple month ago came to $1100 (that's x-rays, exploratory, anesthetic, pain patch, two days of observation, bloodwork, etc.) She had a fondness for six pack rings and ribbons, the depth of which we hadn't realized, until she started throwing up bits of plastic and a terrifying foam that smelled like cooked beans. She's been a lot more active since the surgery, so much so that we've wondered just how long there were some bits in her stomach, throwing off her quality of life without us picking up on it.

But Rupert is very grateful.

That's really an insane amount of money to lose to woolsucking. Your cat has far surpassed the damage my two semi-destructive cats have wrought. Sorry to hear about the incident.

PST, I live in Seattle, actually. I just spend a lot of time in Portland. But yeah, vet work is expensive here!

Luneray: Invasive surgery probably costs more than amputation, would be my guess. When Lars's leg was broken, it would have cost about $1400 for the amputation and $2400 for getting the pin put in (we chose the latter option).

Jan: You are the greatest! I'm getting all teared up at your little "comic" starring Rupert. The afternoon I brought him home, I took a nap and he curled up in bed next to my legs. He's been a sweetie ever since (although he still doesn't like laps and will sit on the pillow/couch behind my head instead).

Christopher fed a nickel to the cat see April 24th. The poor animal. Cost $2,000.

Flea has a Naughty Goods garage sale, to pay for it.

My dog has blown the ACL on each her knees. . .

2K a pop.

As tilda says. .you gotta do what you gotta do. Doesn't make life any happier, though

My cat had $7000 in medical bills in the 4 month period between Oct. '04 and Jan. '05. But, it was worth it.

Damn, that is quite a financial blow but I'm glad to hear Rupert is on the mend. I hope the noise in the car is minor and that the jerk doesn't try to stiff you any more.

So glad that Rupert is doing better, tilda. That's a lot of money but he's so young yet, and he will give you years of happiness in return. I like cats.

When you said surgery was expensive, I didn't quite expect that much. Rupert is one lucky beastie. I'm glad he's healing so well.
